getting a new 11 tacoma

im getting a new taco soon, anyone wanna help with my configuration?

 

What do you want? single cab, small backseat, or full backseat?

 

no kids yet, but i do tend to carry a lot of guns around, are the full back seat really worth getting can people actually sit back there?

 

Personally my wife and I do not have kids and I liked the "looks" of the AC better so thats what I bought. However if you have kids or will ever need to open the back door in tight spaces I'd probably recommend the DC. The AC doors are suicide doors and they are difficult to open if/when my wifes car is parked in the carport with mine, or if I am close to another car in a parking let etc.

I also do a lot of yard work etc. and also wanted a toolbox so the SB was out of the question, and the DC LB are even harder to find around here than AC's.

In short, IMO:

Functionality: DC LB > AC > DC SB
Looks: AC LB > DC - haven't decided if I like the SB or LB looks better, but the SB wouldn't be an option for me due to the aforementioned reasons.

Go with what is going to work best for you though!

 

I just bought my '10 DC Short bed in May and I love it. I think it looks proportional with the DC/SB. I've had two people in the front and two in the back and normal size people have no issues with legroom (I'm 6'6" so I default to the front seat/driver). If you carry a lot of guns/ammo/gear I would recommend an Access cab or DC unless you wanna buy a tool box. If kids are in your future and this is your only vehicle definitely go with the DC

 

Wait till the 4-cylinder Double Cabs come out, then make your decision. Could be a couple thousand cheaper, with MUCH better gas mileage.

 

i wouldn't say "MUCH" better, i get 21mpg with my 6 cylinder. don't people with the 4 banger usually report 26ish? i dont think the loss of power is worth the minor bump in mpg to most people

They're making a double cab with a 4 banger?! IMO its not enough power for the AC. On the interstate with a headwind it struggles. Oh and I get 20 mpg going 75.

 

The point being that 25 MPG highway is a 19% improvement over 21 MPG. An extra 84 miles per tank. With gas at $3.00 per gallon, you'd be saving $10.08 every time you fill up.

That's MUCH better in my opinion.

 

They are making plain Double Cab's with a 4-banger (new model) and Prerunner Double Cab's with a 4-banger.

Why?

 

That's easy. The powertrain would be underpowered for the application. If a smaller displacement engine has to move a larger mass it will have to work harder therefore fuel mileage will suffer.

Perfect case in point was my '08 Accord 4cyl. The EPA ratings between the 4 cylinder and the 6 cylinder were negligible and when it came down to the real world results the lack of power could not make up for any fuel mileage gain.

 

Your Honda example is flawed. In terms of the Tacomas, the EPA ratings between the 4-cyl and 6-cyl engine are nowhere near "negligible".

 

yeah. the 2.7 is def out of the question. the things i haul around i would either get an 2011 f150 or the 2011 tacoma

 

is the 2011 model is it going to be different??

 

The double cab long bed is the best truck! you can haul more people and more stuff. Thats what trucks are made for. me personally i didnt need to haul many people so i got the access cab long bed! Go out and drive everyone of them and get an idea of what will be best for you.

 

New grill - beside engine cab configuration thats about it (from what I've heard).

 

Get the AC you won't ever have to drive your friends around, every one hates my back seats in my AC.
