Oil change

I needed an oil change, so I did it myself last weekend, nothing new or exciting. It's been a tough month for me so I haven't been in my full headspace. It all went smoothly, truck's running fine. Until I went to go throw out the empy jugs of oil in my works recycling bin and realized it was 5W-20 instead of the regular 0W-20. Did I just fuck my truck up? I know the vescosity difference isn't much, but I love my truck and just want to know if I did some damage either long term/short term and if I should change my oil asap? Thanks.

 

5w20 only means it will be a little thicker on a cold start hence what the “W” stands for... when it warms it’ll be at 20 so your fine ... just next time do 0w20. You’ll be just fine.

 

I believe the manual states if you cannot find 0w-20 then you can use 5w-20 until the next change.

 

Eh, just funnel in a shotglass-full of toluene paint thinner down the dipstick, you'll be fine.

I’m pretty sure the W stands for winter. Signifying the oil will be thinner when it’s colder outside.

i put in 5W-20 that i get at costco. book says OK once in a while.

 

i use 5W-20, live in Maui, we just had a cold snap here got down to 69 degrees.

 

I only use 5W-30 for close to 2 years now. But I am in AZ

 

I just put 0w40 in my taco a week ago. Trust me it’s thicker at most temperatures than your 5w20. You will have perfectly adequate protection.
Was the 5w20 synthetic?

 

No, I don't believe so. But next time i'll be alot more deligent when buying my oil!

You're all mistaken... the W stands for 'Wabbits'
