This has been interesting. I'm really getting due for a new truck, my 08 is getting long in the tooth. But the next one has to be MT, I just love driving with a clutch. The only thing I really, really don't like in my 08 is the stupid AT. (Sorry, but slushboxes suck ass). So if the MT is canceled, I'll go order a new OR with the MT. If the MT sticks around, that gives us more time to save our pennies.

Your sig says manual owner. Please don’t make us look bad by just arguing to argue. Lol.

I have driven both and especially backing into tight spots the visual trajectory lines are very helpful. I used to drive a M1-A1 Abrams tank with only a periscope and handsignalling so I know how hard backing up is without a camera at all.

Just drive one with it and then give us a good review not just speculation that it doesn’t help a lot.

Yes that’s my understanding. Weird shift points based on the computer. My father has the issue and they are telling him he needs to do an aftermarket item even after they felt it and acknowledged the issue.

Maybe Toyota thinks Tacoma owners are able to back up their Trucks without the lines moving.

Again, I believe you are overstating the importance of having little lines move in the backup camera in your ability to back the truck up, but I can see I'm not going to change your mind so I'll leave it there. And I never disputed that it really SHOULD be there, along with the other things, just the emphasis you are putting on it.

    Apparently not @SDTaco4x4...

I think you are making a great choice and I suggest at least test driving both trans to ensure that you give the auto a shot. I only want a manual but I have driven both and clearly enjoy the manual more.

I am absolutely not overstating the importance of the lines moving. The lines moving with the wheel show you what path the truck will take. That is huge, especially in tight spaces.

No offense, but unless you've driven a car where the lines move (which is basically all of them now, for a reason), you can't understand.

Yep you got me. I'm just too dumb back out of a parking space without the lines moving. Good one.

Come back when you've actually driven a car where the lines move before continuing to spout nonsense on the issue.

The entire point of the lines is to show what the truck will or won't hit. If they don't move in relation to where the truck is heading, then they serve basically no purpose outside of parking along a curb.

Is it reasonable to expect Future Tacoma and Tundra to share the same cab and drivetrain components.

To go along with the discussion about the backup camera lines not moving, why does Toyota give you a backup camera but then eliminates the beep warning? Ford gives you both, they go well together.

And yes, I can back up a truck without a camera or a beep system. Have driven 40+ years without either but if it helps, why not embrace the help it gives?

Maybe they should just make it back up for me.

I would trade my 17 sport in for a stripped down V6 with a manual transmission. I like the Tacoma because they have been basic good long lasting trucks, I’m not in favor of all this electronic stuff.

I’m not sure how much information Toyota is going to reveal on the 7th , Will they show us the truck but hold all the information back and give us the “specifications and price available fall 2019”

I don't think the Manual will get cancelled next year, my guess is you should be safe for a little while yet.

This isn't a annoucement of a new platform/gen, so my prediction:

They will give full specifications on what will change. Pricing however, will most likely come later this year.
