I don’t doubt it... But looks at how the headlight would be shaped as a whole. Very interesting!

 

Does anyone honestly want this? I'm always for forward progress. However, if they gave me a choice between a mandatory sunroof or a tailgate like that. I would go with the sunroof.

 

That goofy tailgate looks like it would be expensive and troublesome a few years down the road, no thanks.

 

Yes. Why wouldn't anyone NOT want it? Friends who don't even own a truck but know that I just bought one have come up to me and asked if I've "seen that neat new tailgate commercial?" It's getting people's attention.

 

I think the overall shape is the same, ran out to take a pic of my 2018 for a side-by-side.

 

You can clearly see in your comparison that the new headlight goes down further.

 

I have backed up a vehicle with the moving lines, and at first was like wtf, I wouldn’t mind there being an option but would rather have the solid lines. I feel using the back up camera has reduced my mirror and turning my head around. But I do love being able to get right up next to something using the red line.

 

It's not a perfect comparison, and I disagree. I think the LED surround on 3/4 of the new light is lower profile and gives the impression that the space below it (the possible blinker) is extra space. But in reality, I think the new blinker spot is just dead space off to the side of the fake inlet on the current on the current light.

Those openings in that new grill look huge. If they don't have some sort of screen behind it you're going to see a whole lot of radiator.

 

Ya, ultimately we won’t know until someone tries. The dealer will inevitably say “the documents say incompatible.”

Plus who knows what’s going on behind it since presumably it’s more technical than a halogen bulb.

Nah, my cheese grater is all holes and it’s not that noticeable. It sits far enough back that it sits in shadows.

 

Looks like a different size grill. I wonder if the Pro will go unchanged, or get the updated look?

I read there was going to be an optional power adjustable driver seat. I dislike power seats. I get in so many vehicles, with power seats wich do not work, it's frustrating.

Potential LED headlights, is the only new thing that interests me. I'm guessing those will be optional on SR-5s an up, and standard on Limited/Pro and certain gizmo pkgs. I think Toyota purposely left the LEDs off the 3rg, so they could be added at facelift time.

 

If the pricing on 2020 LED headlights is anything like 2018 Tundra LED headlights.. I’m ALL IN!!

I like this tailgate. I think it was strange that they only made it available on the higher trims, but I suspect they might be using the rich folks as guinea pigs before rolling it out as an option to the lower trim trucks in the future. I should note that I like it from a commercial contractor's perspective.

Reasons I like it:
- Can reach deeper into the bed with the gate down
- Can carry a considerable amount of framing and other long materials while simultaneously being able to secure a bed cover/cap
- Provides added security against lateral motion for sheet goods (although any reasonable truck owner should know how to strap their shit properly)
- Size-able step for ease in ingress

Reasons I don't like it:
- Cost
- Complexity
- The fact that they marketed it towards the truck demographic that will likely need it/use it the least

 

If nothing else, I do like the flip-up. It’s like a built in bed extender.

Edit - come to think of it, I’m surprised no one makes a kit like this, instead of the huge oem tubular bed extender.

...^^^... I saw that new GMC tailgate on TV and instantly liked it for my occasional load purposes around the house ... is it still strong though ?

While I love Toyotas ... they are not know for their strong tailgates.

IMO, the perfect truck would be ... a Toyota Tacoma ... short bed ... regular cab ... with a small V-8 ... with Ford's aluminum body ...

 

This tailgate does address the shortcomings of a traditional tailgate, but I can't see anyway it would stand up to commercial use.

Our f350 at work has the tailgate step thing and while it is handy sometimes, most of the time it's unused. Every bit of plastic on it is either broken, loose or missing completely. It still functions fine though.

All I can see with the new GM one is setting a jobox on it, pushing it in with a forklift and just destroying it lol. Also a lot of nooks and crannies for salt to hide and start eating away.
