Not impossible, just almost nobody has ever done it. You could get lucky, but then again people win the lottery too.

LOL okay. Let me know when you've finished writing your book on how to look at "investing". Because there's apparently only one kind.

I think during the dot com bubble, some people were able to get rich timing the market. They saw what was going on and took advantage of it, very few people of course. They also took the money from everyone else, because it's a zero sum game.

I am just messing around of course, I couldn't be more against trying to time the market.

What the hell is up with Amazon? post record breaking sales, and the stock tanks 5+%?? I've been holding for awhile. I'm wondering if I should just cash out on the next good day they have.

what you haven't heard? Disappointing earnings - stock goes way up. Good earnings - stock goes way down. This is the new normal.

Record sales, but their growth outlook got a little more questionable (which is what stock price is primarily based on). Their Whole Foods / physical store play didn't produce nearly as much as expected. They're not dead, but I do have my doubts about them racing up to $2k again anytime soon even though I'd love them to. I'm long on them overall as their web services and stuff is just getting off the ground. Ive even got some stock that I purchased above $1900 which stings. I'm still holding it due to it being a good leverage position for my margin plays. To each their own on the "right thing" to do though.

i could've bought some Amazon today, but I felt buying in other areas where 5k here or 5k there goes a little farther. plus the others provide me dividends.

I'm not saying that you're right or youre wrong... But dont forget that number of shares does not necessarily equal more potential value.

I have always thought if Amazon split their shares there would be more people interested. Maybe they don't want that, I don't know.

For me, I often buy shares with dividends or some extra money, and it's not always $1,500+ at a time. If they did a 10-1 split and brought shares down to $150, I might buy a few.

this strategy has been paying off for me, I have Bristol Myers Squibb even with the stock goes down(mostly because of shuffling of bad company Presidents) I still get some good Dividend payments even when the stock goes down. can you say Dividend reinvestment, I can

I read some articles about Amazon being a steal at the current price. I wish I would've bought in back when I though 650 700 was too high for me, but I bought apple before the split as well and see how it turned out. too bad i sold out of apple back the first time it hit 135 again after the split.
