I feel like i just graduated with my Ph.D. and anytime a topic of headlights come up that i can introduce myself as Dr. and proceed to regurgitate bits and pieces of things I've read above incorrectly but sound super smart. Anyone up for an internet argument about headlights?!?!?!

j/k, thanks for the info bro!

It’s the first page, and you decide on what you want.

There is so much data on pages 1 and 2, I am lost. I was hoping for a quick summary or cliff notes on what I should buy.

That’s the thing - he gave all the data so you could decide on what you want.

It is a lot to read, but worth it so you know what you’re ordering (or similar, if you don’t get something he tested).

I put the Nokya Hyper Yellow H11s in my fogs and I'm really liking them. Not so yellow that it becomes very dim, more pale honestly but leaves quite a bit of brightness. I'll run these out until they burn out - I run my fogs most of the time at night b/c it helps me see animals on the roadsides / ditches at night. eventually I'll probably switch to KC amber LED fogs but these are working great for now and were cheap!

The last 3 or 4 pages is good stuff. H11s in the Fogs. GE +130 in the lows. New Hella H9s in the Highs. Or both Hella H9s high and low. The GE +130s are plug and play in the lows. H9 Hellas are plug send play in the Highs . H9s in the lows need a slight mod on the bulb or buy extensions and mod them. That's what I'm doing. Did I miss something Crash ??

    Nailed it.

    1. Low beam:
I would run the Hellas H9s, 73% more output than stock. Link to buy here. Link with info in post #108 here.
Reasons to choose the GE +130s H11s in the lows instead:
-You don't want to mod the bulb base or use an adapter as shown in post #126 here.
-You want the lows to match the fogs
-You want slightly whiter 3500k headlights instead of 3200k.
    2. High beam:
Hella H9s, same links as above. 13% improvement over stock.
    3: Fog
If looking for best output (not yellower color temp) the GE +130s.

Link to buy the GE +130s here. Be sure to use the coupon code from the home page. If looking for fogs designed around an LED light source instead, see the SAE LED fog thread here.

Who doesn’t love some good IR thermal testing.

    Ambient temp 59 degrees

    After 25 min runtime:
    GE +130: 205 degrees
    Hella H9: 262 degree

The Hellas consume just over 30% more power than the GEs, and as expected run almost 30% hotter.

These readings were taken at the back aluminum ring that the bulb locks into on the headlight assembly as this was the hottest part of the housing. Note this was peak temp I was able to find, I’d say the general reading was 40-50 degrees less without locating a hotspot.

So you think the H9s are ok. Hope so. They are on the way.

I’d run them in a heartbeat, though I could not absolutely 100% guarantee there wouldn’t be a long term issue. Keep in mind that this reading is on the metal part of the headlight assembly, connected to the metal part of the bulb. Heat transfer is very efficient when everything is physically touching a metal surface. Plastic is an insulator and does not transfer heat. Also keep in mind these are 13% hotter and higher output than the stock high beam so it isn’t completely crazy compared to what the high beam bulb next door is doing, though the high beam housing does have greater internal volume being a reflector. In short if it were my truck I would run the Hellas.

I was gonna anyway. Didn't think the extra 13 percent was gonna be a problem. I'll post up when I get them in. Thanks as usual

crash....i am going to stick with my HIDs for low.......the reason is obvious; better stronger light.............i will also run the GE +130s in the fog......it will same or close color to the HIDs........i run the light switch in “auto” and fog lights “on” all the time....but I will turn off fogs and only use them at night or in fog considering the life expectancy of the GEs......this is a great forum and its people like you who deserve more credit and you get.....it I ever get up to Washington or you every get back down here, let me know.....i owe you dinner

Even the best halogen is going to be no match for HID in terms of output. HID intensity is just so powerful.

Running your fogs all the time isn't great for your distance night vision. But if you wanted a performance fog you could leave on all the time without worrying about bulb life, I would highly recommend the LED KC G4s. (Note the housing is built for LED, unlike LEDs in halogen housings covered in this thread). Check out the KC G4s in this thread:

I'll let you know if I am making it down to visit the Grandparents in your neck of Cali anytime soon!

Plug and play direct replacement. Lower power draw, no harness needed.

These are one of those products where the prices seem identical everywhere, so it really comes down to finding; free shipping, avoiding tax, and using coupon codes. KC is a vendor on the site though and does offer forum discounts. @Taylor@KC HiLiTES might be able to help you out.

As a price point comparison, everyone seems to sell them for a base rate of $265.

    list is growing fast
I put in the GE +130 and went for a drive up the coast... Didn't tell my buddy, but out of the blue while driving a very dark hwy 1 at night, he says" wow dude, your headlights are really bright. I can see so much better than my car." He drives a honda pilot. Thought that was funny.

Should have told him the stock ones were terrible, and these are not technically any higher output. You just know how to Science.
