so i bought the herculiner today 1 quart, not the whole gallon

I am looking to paint my fender flares. i have a 2004 red impulse pearl Dcab, with the red fenders. they are not the factory flat black fenders.

my question is, ive seen many guys on here paint their fenders with herculiner, and it seems to have a (gritty) texture to it when applied. but the guys ive seen paint their flares, already had the black factory ones. are those different than my gloss red ones??

I opened the can today and it seems that its just a regular glossy black type paint. if i put this on my fenders will it just be that boring glossy black or will it have that gritty look to it?? i want the rough gritty look. im just wondering if the factory black fenders come (gritty) already, compared to my red fenders.

do i have to mix the can up or something??? and do i have to sand the fenders?? i would rather not sand them.

    thanks guys for any help

herculiner is very gritty/ bumpy. It's designed as a bedliner so it has to be. You need to stir the can up, all the bumpiness settles to the bottom very quickly. I think it says to not shake the can so don't do that. I did my grille, avid light bar, and avid steps with herculiner.

I'm going to guess you need to mix the can up...It's supposed to be gritty I"m pretty sure...

oh and the herculiner will be anything but glossy. after a while it starts to fade. I don't mind the faded look but I think there's a product to bring the glossiness back. I've read armor all will do the job but dont remember any other products.

just remember, if that crap gets on your skin, it's there to stay for about a week. I wore long sleeves and gloves and it helped. Acetone will take it off if it's still wet but the fumes are pretty harsh. Keep any leftovers sealed up tight or it'll dry out cause eventually you might need to do touchups if it starts to chip.

Looks good man! That stuff seems to be able to bond to anything, so hopefully it won't peel. If it does just rip it off, sand, and paint again.
Those lines look perfect. Either you've got a very steady hand or you are a master with painters tape.

lol no master here. just some good ole blue painters tape. but after i was done there were a few parts that were uneven on the lines. so what i did was use a Q-tip, dapped a little acetone on there, and wiped around the line. it really evened it out nice. ill post pics later today. im doing the other 2 fenders today
