Ok...it was the over head map light console that went out. There was an open circuit in there some place in case someone else has this problem. Only affected dome lights not fading out. FYI.

That’s a super bummer. This is why I always suggest to disconnect the battery before doing any electrical work. What I can almost guarantee happened is when trying to insert the bulb adapter it contacted both pins briefly and threw the truck for a loop. Since the location of where the bulbs are in the overhead console are tucked up inside the hole, it’s kinda tricky to reach up in there and plug the adapter in straight. Glad you got it worked out, if there’s anything you need from me just PM

Glad I came across this! Ordered some LED bulbs for the map and dome lights from Diode Dynamics, installing today.

I’ve cycled through a few cars recently, and realized I haven’t changed a battery in over 5 years lol. So I Googled a how to and found this: https://www.carcarekiosk.com/video/...5L_V6_Crew_Cab_Pickup/battery/replace_battery

They attach something called a battery tender before disconnecting the cables. Is that necessary/required with these newer vehicles? Never heard of that before. I know nothing about electrical so please forgive me.

@ChrisK7UND @mesojdm do I only need to disconnect the negative terminal before installing? Or both?

I usually check fuses using a meter so I don’t have to do the PITA thing of removing and reinstalling some of those difficult to reach/access ones. After all, that’s what those metal tabs are for on the top, may be easier and quicker if you don’t have a spare available.

Just the negative. You don’t have to hook up a battery tender. That would defeat the purpose of unhooking the battery as you would still be supplying voltage to the electronics in the truck. Just unhook the negative, install the bulbs, then hook it back up! Done!

Had no clue what a battery tender was, after Googling I realize how dumb that was to ask lol. Thanks!

Hi are you talking about the main unit next to the rear view mirror that has the....traction control etc...or the cab light in the center of the headliner as I have the same issue after installing the MESO lights.
