It blew me away they had the stones to charge $75, but almost double is just beyond ridiculous! Now they also didn't have a tag or a price on the shelf for it or the other "rare" bottles. So I'm guessing the price can fluctuate depending on the mood that day.:notsure:

Yeah, the store I was at charges a lot of secondary market prices for things. But they have a huuuuge selection and lots of rare bottlings, so they upcharge a ton for it. Anyone who knows what to looks for and what things SHOULD be priced at though, can still find some decent deals there.

Thanks for the head's-up on the Hibiki. I was able to pick up a bottle($70) from my regular spot today. Although it's far from a daily, for me. I do like to have a bottle on hand.
Also picked up a handle(1.75l) of Weller SR($44) while I was there.

I'm so confused. Stopped by Total Wine today to inquire about Hibiki, talked to the assistant manager and one of the experts behind the desk (the manager referred me to him as she said he was the guy who would know).

He said he was unaware of any issue and they had gotten a case recently that just sold out a few days before. He looked in his computer and said they were expecting another case in 1-2 weeks and they were just going to put it out on the shelf (vs hiding behind the desk like the allocated stuff).

So really not sure what is going on. I do know I'm going back next week and will snag a bottle regardless...

While there they showed me a bottle of Midleton Very Rare 2018 they had behind the desk. At $190 it was not in my budget so I ended up with a Balvinie Caribbean Cask. Been meaning to try this one.

My lady bought me this bottle for Christmas and unfortunately I finished her off today. I enjoy the 14yr on occasion and like it a fair bit. It was my first time having the 18 and I have to say I was impressed. In my opinion it tastes quite similar to the 14 but the flavors seem a bit more robust and linger on the palate much longer. The smoke seems a bit more present as well. Hopefully she’ll buy me another sometime! FE2FDD8C-D60D-4CB9-B670-42E61797CB91.jpg

Post up how that caribbean cask tastes. I'm a Balvinie fan.

I almost always have a decent bottle of the following for sipping:
    Bourbon
    Scotch
    Tequila

Highschool cured me of Tequila for oh.... 20+ years? Then I had a meeting in deep Mexico, about 2 hours outside of Mexico City. The local facilitator took the officers out for a local quality restaurant dinner and did all the drink selections for us. And for the equivalent of $5/drink, we had some amazing tequilas. Wonderful flavors, very mature blends, often served with a chilled side of tomatillo. A good tequila in my mind is just as enjoyable as a good bourbon. I think you pay a little more per bottle to get that quality though. My current bottle is a Don Julio 1942. My standby is a Herradura Anejo... but that changes.

I've only recently gotten over my '80's ban on the French for their NATO position back then... starting to enjoy some of their wines ;)

So far all I've tried has been Crown Royal, Chivas Regal 12 Year Scotch, Bulleit bourbon, and tonight im comparing the Bulleit to Maker's Mark. I think I like the Chivas Regal and Maker's Mark the best, but it's a close call on the Makers vs Bulleit. I have a long way to go on training my nose to pick up the differences though. (Maker's left, Bulleit right)IMG_20190131_201153.jpg

EDIT: After having a bit of each, with a couple swigs of water between sips, I definitely am liking Maker's Mark better. Maybe in a month or two when I get close to needing a new bottle ill compare it to Knob Creek. I know these are probably all really different but I'm a novice in the whiskey world haha.

Lol. My tequila experience started in Tijuana in my late teens/early twenties- tequila poppers and other bad decisions. I couldn't even smell tequila without getting queasy.

My Dad used to travel to Mexico for work and he became friends with the guys in the factory. They started giving him a bottle when he was there - some you couldn't get in the US. He never had the heart to tell them he didn't like tequila, so they just piled up until he decided to give them away. I ended up with about a dozen bottles. I'm sure they are very good, but I just can't bring myself to try one! Maybe scarred for life... These are a few of them.

How’s that 1942? I know very little about tequila but I thought about trying that. Saw it at local store for $125

Found buffalo trace locally for the first time, only had one bottle for $25. I actually only came to this liquor store since my regular didn’t have any weller sr (which they usually have tons for $19). This store had one bottle of weller for $28, I left it knowing I can get it at $19 usually. I needed an inexpensive bottle to keep the wife off my back lol

I know you didn't ask me, but Buffalo Trace is my favorite bourbon. I have had many, many higher priced bottles, but it is always the one I go back to.

I only know the center one. :). Not bad, but not as smooth as some of the higher priced ones. I started there when testing tequilas so you can’t go wrong. It’s probably equivalent to crown royal in the whiskey genre? Maybe a touch above? But heck, taste is such an individual thing. :)
