If the bearings get pressed... The Diff, CVs, Spindles are ready to go in. :D

And I'm getting closer for the rest of it.
-Carrier Bearing, CB stake nut, and 1 of the U-joints got here yesterday
-The other 3 U-joints will be here Sunday
-I ordered the twin sticks, twin stick boot, and rear main seal today

Only things I need now are:
-Nuts, bolts, washers for front driveline
-Bolts to mate Transfer Case to Trans
    -Transmission filter
    -Shift kit

    Question:

The Trans and Tcase I bought for my 4x conversion were separated when I bought them. They did not come with the bolts to attach the Tcase on to the Trans. There was one bolt left over because the trans mount was in the way to get it out (pictured). What is the consensus... Would you do OEM bolts from the dealer, for who knows what stupidly outrageous price they want? Or, would you use the one bolt to get the correct thread pitch, legth, etc and buy grade 8 bolts and washers and be done with it?

I’d personally be fine with grade 8 with the right thread and length in this application.

I’ve been known to sort through the random bolt bucket for stuff like this :anonymous:

@foxrcing07 said pretty much the same thing when we talked about it.

Think I'll head over to Napa and match me up some bolts tomorrow

At napa or Ace they will be stamped 10.9 on the head, metric version of grade 8.

Toyota dosent stamp their bolts but they easily could be using metric 8.8(grade 5) as that grade will deform and stretch rather than snap. Also since both housings are cast alum they might have specd 8.8 to protect them.

Its raining balls but maybe tomorrow I can go to my junk pile and see if I can find a couple tcase mounting bolts and take a better look at them. Lots of times the size of the flat washers will tell you what grade the bolts are.

Should also mention that early case doublers only used grade 5 bolts and I have never heard or seen them breaking a bolt.

And that tranny output seal is a bitch to not pop the tension spring out. Check your trans fluid level 2 or 3 times over the next year to make sure you arent loosing any fluid. If it leaks out the output it will fill that void between the tcase and the rear of the trans first so you dont always see a rise in tcase fluid. And the trans will destroy the input shaft bearing if it fluid level drops too much.

Should I replace the Trans output shaft seal now, while it's out?

And dont mess around with a trans jack. Use an engine hoist through the cab and drop a strap through the shifter opening and wrap it around the trans making sure it isnt touching any of the shift position sensors. Then you can use a normal floor jack under the tcase the do more minor adjustments. Not having a clunky trans jack in the way will make it much easier.

Ok... I'll go to Toyota tomorrow.

How bout the filter. The only OEM filters I can find listed (for A340F) look like this.

This is the filter I'm trying to replace.

Apparently there are multiple filters that have been used for the A340F. The only filter I can find that actually looks like mine is Wix

    https://www.summitracing.com/parts/wix-58884/

Should I just go with the Wix? Is it even worth doing an OEM?

No idea. Only autos I own are on newer toyotas that dont have replaceable filters.
Wix has always been good quality.

I keep forgetting that you are not doing a 5spd swap too. I personally have only done tcase work on 5spds so some of my info maybe different than what you are going to deal with.

Lol... I don't have an engine hoist or trans jack :anonymous:

Been figuring I would cross those bridges when I get there. Guess I'm getting to a point I'd better figure that shit out lol.

Lol, well if you want some excitement, I have had to do a trail side repair of a clutch one time. Take a 2x4(or 6) longer than the frame rails width. Then wrap two ratchet straps over the frame rails and then under the 2x4. Then set trans onto 2x4 and start ratcheting. You will have to do some bench presses at the end but that is almost what a trans install requires anyways.

Or does the auto not have a removable crossmember?

    ***CORRECTION***

Trans filter ordered = should arrive by Monday
Shift Kit ordered = should arrive by Wednesday
Rear main seal ordered = should arrive by Friday

Will head to Toyota tomorrow and order an output shaft seal for the trans and inquire about the assorted bolts, nuts, and washers for the Trans to Tcase and the front drive line.

Shit... I think I might just actually pull this pipe dream off!
