A few additional questions:
Will there be any powertrain upgrades for the Tacoma before the move to TNGA-F and if so what are the changes? (New transmission, new engines or updates to the existing engines to dynamic force?)

With the new Tundra coming next year, can you share the mechanical details? Really curious if Toyota will use the 3.5L twin turbo from the LS500 or and updated 5.0L V8 from Lexus? Or both like Ford?

I would prefer updating the 5.7

the 5.0 sounds kind of small and would need higher revs to make good power compared to the 5.7

 

Bringing back the supercharged option as well as a front locker

If diesel is true, I may convert my long time Ford friend. He said he'd consider Toyota if there were a diesel option!
I always said I'd never get rid of my 2nd gen unless they came out with a diesel option. Looks like I may be sweating it in a few years.

 

Unless Ford actually gets the Bronco right (doubtful), there really isn't any real competitor for the 4runner other than the 4-door Wrangler. I feel like Toyota has no motivation to redesign it. Personally, I think the 4runner is STILL the best looking truck/SUV on the road even though it hasn't been redesinged in forever.... If only it still had a manual.

 

I like our 5th gen 4runner, but thought the exterior of the 3rd and 4th gens were the best looking.

 

I actually agree with you on that. I'm Currently looking for a low-mile 4th gen v8 with a halfway decent price (impossible) to replace the fiance's shitty Rogue she bought B4 we met. I swear if I have to drive that thing on one more road trip... lol

 

I had an 03 w the V8. One of the best vehicles I ever owned, and by far the best vehicle for the price. The current 4.0 V6 is solid, but I miss the 4.7 v8.

 

All these mullings are nice but likely a Longshot. I waited so long for the 3rd gen and was thoroughly disappointed. I'm running out of patience with Toyota. Why should I think they'll head anywhere "fun"? Look how they struck ito with the supra

 

So what changes would you be impressed by and consider worth purchasing?

A better engine. Period. The 3.5 was subpar from day one.

 

If you don't mind me asking, why do you want diesel so bad in a midsize truck? What do you use your truck for? Have you looked at the diesel gm twins?

 

Although I'm not happy with them going to a smaller displacement, I'm sure if they re programmed the trans there wouldn't be as many complaints.

 

I would put money on, that the base engine in next years new redesigned Tundra will migrate to the 2023 Tacoma redesign and be our top range engine and the new 10-Speed transmission will also appear in the Tundra and migrate to the Tacoma in 2023.

This exactly! Everyone is going on about lines should move on the backup camera and seats to cool a sweaty ass. It's kinda like the smartphone: people are crying for dual rear-facing cameras, 10-gazillion pixels on a 4" screen, and no bezel, when what most of us could use is just a bigger damn battery.

What would really make the truck better is more power. In the Rocky Mountains, where you drive over 8,000 feet on a regular basis, that's, like, 20% power loss right off the top of a motor that's already just "adequate" at sea level.

Too many people want "features," like electric seats that only increase the cost of the vehicle, adds weight to the vehicle, don't add much to the function; and then bitch that the damn thing now costs $40k and gets shitty mileage.

I use my truck as a portal to adventure. It hauls things, it tows things, it gets dirty. It's far more important that it does truck things (without breaking) than luxury car things (coddle my lazy, entitled, fat ass). My wifes car does that.
