Anyone with a newer gen Toyota truck wish they still had their first gen?

I didn't even look at the MT's and I was a die hard MT guy my whole life. My first Toyota was a 2nd gen 4Runner with a MT and it was a lot of fun. I wasn't sure how long I'd want to own this truck so I decided on an auto for easy California freeway driving and a simpler resale. I don't offroad and this isn't a performance vehicle, for my needs the MT wasn't suitable this time around. To each his own.

i did experience buyers remorse when i traded in my 1st ben tundra DC for my 3rd gen taco, but the more i drive it the more im happy with the trade. upgraded to 4x4, and all the electronic gizmos are neat to have. plus the gas mileage is fucking amazing compared to try old tundra.

I have had all 3 generations of Tacoma's, they are all awesome trucks, but I will gladly keep my 3rd Gen for this stage of life.

It’s bittersweet to me. My 1st gen was totaled by an idiot texting driver or I would still be driving it and loving every minute on that basic barebones beast!! No car payment for last 12 years. Insurance was $47.00/ month for full coverage. Never had a single repair on it besides breaks and tires. Only 125k miles on it. Thought it was going to last forever. On the other hand, I do enjoy the 3rd gen. Been good so far just money right?

Your situation sounds just like mine, great truck taken out too soon. What color was yours? I had that awesome bronze/grey color... I miss the cathedral ceiling and giant moon roof.

Ordered a first gen when they first came out. Xcab, SR5 5spd and had it for about 8 years. Great truck, but honestly my third gen is way more comfortable (better seating position and way more power). Added almost the exact same mods on each even though they are better than 20 years apart. Been driving a lot of economy cars (Subaru) so the third gen shifting does not really bother me. My 95, no matter what I did seemed to average around 18 mpg, whereas I am about 19.5 on the new one.

2003 green. Miss the short front end and the a pillar handle on driver side. Also the simple dash cluster.

    I've own a
    1978 Toyota PU
    1986 Toyota 1 ton
    1989 Toyota 1 ton dually
    1989 Toyota 4x4
    1990 Toyota ext cab 4x4
    1999 Tacoma
2001 Tundra. Really nice truck but MPG sucked
And now a 2018 DCLB OR 4x4. Absolutely the nicest Toyota truck I've owned so far. Time will tell. Baddest ass 4x4 I owned out of the box.
I've driven 700,000 + miles in my Toyota trucks and the 2018 Tacoma has the best combination of power, safety and MPG.
All of my trucks have had issues, but Toyota has always repaired the issues, unlike the Chevys and Fords I've owned.

I really can't believe some of the things you guys bitch and whine about. I'm guessing it's a younger generation thing. Get a life and don't sweat the small stuff. IMHO

I looked for a 1st gen tundra. If there was a 4x4 with under 180K I would have gotten it. Still kinda wish I could have.
I don’t like all the electronics. If I had cash and didn’t need to finance it I would have built up an old 60’s Chevy 4x4 and swapped in LS motor on 35’s and Detroit lockers with manual hubs.

Love my new truck, don’t care to look back. From ‘95.5 4x4 a.cab manual to auto trd-or d.cab.
