Yes, you will do damage. I had a broken front right shock and didn't really figure it out for a while, and I ended up needing to replace the right axle.

Are you crazy...posting that you didn’t know you had a broken shock will get you berated on here!

Yes, I constantly worry about being berated here. NOT. I simply couldn't tell the damn thing was busted, believe it or not. I don't inspect my shocks every day. The OP knows his shocks are busted, and I wanted to give him a heads up on potential damage from continuing to drive on them. If I can't set a good example, I can at least serve as a warning* :p

Wasn’t trying to give you a hard time, quite the opposite! I’m with you, and appreciate the advice (that’s what I come on TW for anyway).

Dunno bro, I’ve had to warranty a bunch of stuff, things like shocks and shit aren’t a big deal, 5 minutes to change, steering racks on the other hand

Huh, I knew immediately when my drivers side rear shock snapped while driving down a third world equivalent road up here in NH. Felt like a long travel that bottomed out over every bump.

Of course it happened late in March so I froze my ass off switching the stock to 5100s...Hint- don’t bother w the Allen and crescent wrench, just go at it with a sawzall.

    Back to original programming....

Thanks for the sawzall tip, I’m going to get new CVJ axles while I’m at it as my boots are about done, so I’m gonna go all in ripping stuff out.

You bet, just beware I was talking about sawzallimg the top of the rear shocks and not the fronts, I haven’t done the fronts but couldn’t see why it wouldn’t work for them too... Good Luck!

Fortunately, there's a broken strut pocket built into the lower control arm.
Not bashing but that's incredible! You got luck there.

That’s what I was talking about as far as being lucky! If the shock hadn’t fallen into the LCA the way it had I would have needed a tow, or possibly been flipped over in a ditch before I got where I was!
