See that. I think that may have been to set a fixed position.

I have never heard of a dash cam interfering with 2m...what do people say it does to it? I have a dash cam and zero issues. Very curious.

Probably not the camera itself but the power supply sometimes creates interference. The quality of those will vary all over the place.

Ah! I guess i havent had any issues because i put the camera in after my radio, and the radio install included extensive RF grounding throughout the vehicle along with a shielded power wire with ferrite chokes . I had heard that Tacos are difficult when it comes to RF so i may have gone overbord.

Yup, too many variables to say definitely anything. I think most of those dash cams are powered by USB and those 12V-to-5V supplies can be really noisy. But not all of them, some are fine.

Mine runs on 12v so that may be why I don't have any.

A buddy of mine had one, and he told me it wiped out 2m band. He couldn't turn squelch up high enough to squelch the camera. Interference was not changed whether powered on 12v or with the internal battery in the camera.

He returned it to exchange for another brand. The new one raised his noise floor on 2m, but it wasn't that bad. He lived with it.

What issues are you having, and are you messaging RF-RF or RF-SMS?

...and, what are you using to try to send messages? (radio, APRSDroid, etc.)

Need some help with Icom 2730a:

trying to get everything programmed to use repeaters, but the more I read the more confused I get.

    repeater info:
    Band- 2m
    Receive- 145.330
    Offset- -0.6
    PL- 100
    DCS- N/A

Which Tone setting on the 2730 do I use (Tone, TSQL, TSQL-R, TON.TSQ)? Do I set the R-tone or the C-tone as 100? I know since there is no DCS value I am not using any of the DTSC settings.

    Thanks y'all.

Most repeaters do not require a receive tone, so us the "Tone" setting. The Tone opens the squelch of the repeater so it will hear you. the TSQL is for when you require a tone on your receive as well.
    Receive 145.330
    Transmit 144.730
    PL - "Tone" 100

So according to the manual I’ll actually set the R-tone if I’m using “Tone”? That just doesn’t sound right to me. Common sense says it should be the C-tone. Is this just something weird with icoms?

Sadly the only repeaters I can hit around me don’t even have PL tones so can’t really test it out unless I do some driving.

Not sure why ICOM calls them "R TONE" or "C TONE" but the description for "TONE" is correct, you want to superimpose your transmitted signal with the CTCSS tone set in "R TONE". The receiving radio at the repeater needs to have the tone present for it to open its squelch and retransmit your signal.

What they call "TSQL" means it will put the tone on just like before but additionally for your radio's squelch to open the signal must have the correct tone on it, which means the repeater must be adding it on. Many do but not all.

But if you're not experiencing interference then you don't really need TSQL. The normal way your radio opens its squelch is just to have a signal strong enough, tone or not.

Usually the tone on RX and TX is the same but they give you the option of a "C TONE" so that it can be different. Some repeaters are set up to have two CTCSS tones.

Just missed the General without studying. After research the General license may be nice if no repeaters or people nearby.
