Oh yeah, I have to put in the new wiper blades. I put some Goodyears on last year, not too good, I have some Michelin’s for this year. The Michelins have been great on my wifes X3.

I just had the dealer replace mine at my 30,000. Just the inserts. They work great.

I replaced mine with aftermarket whole frame assemblies after the first and year going on two for the replacement.
And I'll replace those soon too, frame assembly and all because I need good spring tension for those pest bugs that love my windshield so much.

    Cheers!

Good thing I read this thread. I got the new blades on. I took a 2,250 mile trip over Thanksgiving and lucky for us the weather was very nice. These brand new, Costco, Michilins were on my work bench since August. The blades I took off were desert dry.

So anyway - I have found instructions on the"other" forum to remove the wiper blade holder. "There is a plastic cover on the top that flips up. Use a screw driver or something, and then just slide it off the J-hook"

These are a specific model that the local stores may not carry. Local Walmart and parts stores carry Trico, but not these ones that mimic OEM. I’m sure the local availability it varies throughout the country.

Oh yeah I see what you are saying now. My bad. I'll add a set of these to my wish list.

try using a rag and some windex to clean them off. they should work like new again - they are likely just covered in dirt. you will be amazed how black the rag will get.

Am I the only one that remembers when this was the main way to replace wipers?! The frames were rarely, if ever, changed out.

    Are oem rubber or silicone?

I've heard silicone last a lot longer because science... It's not rubber, rubber dries

I did this on my tundra once. Spiderwebbed the whole passenger side. That was an expensive wiper blade install

I always wipe the blades after cleaning my windows. Seeing the paper towels blacken afterwards confirms me the wiping action will be clean with no streaks.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I learned this at the tire store when they were helping me install some aftermarket blades bought several years ago.

Before searching for new wiper blades, I called both of my local Toyota Dealers to see if they carried the refills and they said “no” we only sell the blades. New wiper blades were $43 out the door, NO thank you!!
