@Area51Runner Do you have any other ideas on making the two factory intake pieces more air tight?

 

Other than heavier duty clips you suggested and perhaps the fusion tape or a nice silicone bead around the tube openings, no. I thought about going with a heavier duty hose to replace the plastic duct but that would be excessive.

 

You're talking about the duct that connects to the factory elbow right?

 

Yes. I don't really want to mess with #2 (see image red arrows). If its leaking there, so be it. I have to smog the truck in a couple of months and dont want to mess with removing that elbow and putting in some type of flexible 1 piece air hose with a clamp to fit over the airbox side only to have the smog tech have some kind of freak out because I 'modified' the airbox with an aftermarket connection instead of the OE elbow.

For #1 and the hose to snorkel side, if air is escaping there because of that clamp, I think the fusion tape is going to be the answer. Worst case, if it needs to be removed its a simple slice (i hope lol)

Will try to mess with it this weekend and report findings.

 

Installing the ARB knock-off snorkel as we speak. The only downside I feel so far is attaching the freaking rubber hose to the snorkel. Holy crap! People saying that oh I just used a hair dryer and a flat head screwdriver. I will tell you right now it is not that freaking easy to put on. I will be honest and tell you that it's a PIA for sure! Good luck. You're gonna need!

True but come on. Didn't realize I needed a flat head, heat gun, and some of the hulks strength lol. Just crappy OP failed to mention how hard it is and made it seem so simple hahaha

I don’t remember having a difficult time. Use a little finesse and less strength maybe? Heat up the plastic tube some more? Heat gun have hotter settings than a hair dryer.

 

You did buy a snorkel for 25% the cost of the major name brand ...

Are you sure this won't mess up the expensive MAF sensor? I'd recommend boiling a pot of water and then soaking the end of the tube in that for 5-10 min to make it soft rather than the hotter and direct (melting) heat of a heat gun.

Some people have more troubles than others with mechanical things. That's life.

 

How did you get 25% when the ARB one cost $400 and this is $100, now $150?

I just rubbed a bit of it around the snorkel outlet, didn't take much but it helped a lot.

 

Maybe my math is off

 

Probably harder for some folks now due to the cold weather. Was reasonably warm when I installed mine and didn't have much trouble connecting the tubing but if its cold and stiff I could see that making it a pain

 

Finally got it on!!! Dang!!! 6hrs later. Ughhhhhh. Jk. Was a pain for sure. At least the rubber hose part.

Not sure how you'd be able to do it the other way around lol. The rubber tube is wider than the snorkel piece
