The people that are telling me this stuff, they probably started from scratch....

I'm starting from finished to the finishing details. ;)

Well I admire your spirit. Hope you prove us wrong buddy. Keep us updated with pics and everything. You should start a build page on this truck so we can all follow it.

I am. Proving everyone wrong sounds a little harsh. Just keep it at, you guys can follow what I can do with it.

Good luck. My mom has a '94 GMC suburban 1500, basically the same thing only with an auto tranny and 4x4. The only real problems in 160,000 miles have been the intake manifold gasket, 4x4 solenoid thing, and the fuel pump is out right now.

    Waiting for pics...

I'm picking it up tomorrow. I'll have plenty of pictures to go around, Promise. :)

And I'm just bring it back to normal condition, not showroom. It has been sitting for a while on my Uncle's land, everything checks out fine- no rust, or bad dents. it just needs new blood.. and some other small items.

Its 2WD so I wont have to fool with the 4x4 system.

Well I didn't literally mean showroom condition to begin with. I knew from the start if I would have done that, I would have broken the bank multiple times and a longer "build" process.

Thanks Brock. I really hope I do. This is/will be a great truck for a guy who just turned 16.

Good luck Lents! It seems to be the general consensus here that you're making "bad" financial decisions. Go with what your gut tells you and you'll be fine!

Those problems are notorious on that generation. Manifold gasket, 4x4 encoder motor and fuel pump(which was actually an issue with the whole GM line.)

Personally, I wish you luck. If I paid $500 for a truck that I was going to sell I would drop no more than $200 into it and try to move it as quickly as possible at around $1200. The longer you sit on it the more it will cost you.

the Chevy is actually a 1988 GMC Sierra stepside.

And we couldn't go today, U-Haul was being completely ridiculous with the rental procedure.

the last one I offered money for? Yes it was $850 but that was $350 out of my price range.

Sure it had a 60k miles 22RE engine in it, but it did need a little help...

Starter was gone, wires were everywhere, ignition cylinder was gone- had to crank it with a flathead screwdriver.
