    Thanks for the write up.
Seems like a whole new mirror set is required to get the parts to make this work.
Thing is, I have Meso's switchback turn signals.
Are the internal wirings different? Or the available space?
These switchback turn signals basically take up nearly all the available space.

I might be in for option one.
As long as there is instructions, I should be able yo follow them through.

It is but my vendor actually makes kits for other vehicles with just the needed parts to make the Power Folding feature. They just don’t make them for the Tacoma because there hasn’t been a need until “Now”. Therefore, that is why I am working with them to get something going so there will be something that I can get and provide to all of you :) Therefore, a whole new mirror set is not required for this mod. Internal wiring and space is the same. You will see when I post up all of my pics the similarities and how this works.

    My Ultimate Side Mirror Build

I too started off with ME-SO Customs V4 Blacked Out Ultimate Turn Signals myself. Then I opened those up and made the ME-SO Customs Blacked Out Ultimate LED Switchback Turn Signals with a collaborative effort with ME-SO. He decided to go with Diode Dynamics LED Strip and I stayed with The Retrofit Source LED Strip. I didn’t really care to have the dimmable feature in my mirrors. However, I have finally reached my last version for my Mirror Turn Signal. I call it the ME-SO Customs Blacked Out Ultimate LED RGB Turn Signals - Thanks to @mesojdm for making his Blacked Out Turn Signal Cover Housings. I absolutely love the blacked out look. It’s so clean and sleek. However, I took it a step further and going off the previous modification with the LED Switchback Turn Signals where I used the Profile Pivot Strip w/ Driver (Switchback) 6”, I decided to go with the Profile Prism Strip w/ Driver (RGB) 6”.

    F627C914-F87D-4D21-8A4B-4DB30EFDE886.jpg

I can now match my Mirror DRLs with my Headlight DRLs and my three Raptor Lights in my Grill. I absolutely love how ALL my DRLs and my Raptor Lights in front match. It was starting to bother me when I would have my DRLs Amber with my Raptor Lights in my Grill Amber for Morning Fog, but my Mirror Signals are White. I thought, god I would love to be able to have my Mirror Signals match my DRLs and my Raptor Grill Lights. With this modification, I will be able to program them to turn on with the ignition White or I can use my Bluetooth XBT App Controller and program them to any color on the color spectrum wheel, while also having the Switchback feature for the Amber Turn Signal. This means, I will not be using the OEM White and Pink Turn Signal Wires as I will no longer need them inside the Mirror Housing.

I will also be adding MESO Customs Puddle Lights

These pics are prototypes so I’m sure there will be some design tweaks before the final product gets released to fit the new smaller LED as well as a “cone” taper to help with light dispersment for more coverage like the 4Runner.

My last mod I will add to my Ultimate Side Mirror Build will be Side Cameras.

I’m going to install the same OEM Switch I installed for my Front & Rear Cameras for my Side Cameras.

Man, I was always looking for side camera's for my truck.
In Japan, a truck needs to have side cameras. And have been trying to look for a clean solution before I bring it over there.
Next on the list are amber tail turn signals.
Got to get me those Meso tail lights.

    This could be fun.

I had power folding mirrors on my 1990 Accord from JDM-land and they were fun to play with. I'm assuming since you're just replacing the guts you don't have to worry about losing the convex glass on the passenger side, correct?

Its a safetly law there, depending on the class that you bring it in as.
However for trucks specifically, it is required.
Even other Tacomas brought into Japan that serves as a utility vehicle are modified with side cameras.
The monitors are install in the cab and act as secondary mirrors.
Awesome that Japan does it for you (at your cost), if you bring one in.
However, I would like a cleaner and more oem look.

They even install switchback turn tail light signals, cause all cars in Japan (Europe too, I think) have to have amber turn signals.

It would be as much as plug & play as possible depending on if you did Option 2 or 3. Option 1 is the only one where you would be doing it yourself. If I am able to get this in a kit and get this going for everyone, I would build them and then send them back to you ready to install. The only thing you would HAVE to do no matter is some wiring inside the cab because our trucks are NOT wired for power folding mirrors. However, I would try to include instructions and make it so all you have to do is follow them. Like I said before though, this is not a “beginner” mod so if you are interested in this I would make sure to ask questions or look over write up when it’s posted prior to moving forward with this mod.

Short answer to your question is yes. You don’t have to worry about losing the convex glass. Longer answer to your question is you can do this mod a lot of different ways. It really just depends on what you are after. For example, if you are someone that has the OEM chrome turn signals and aren’t planning on switching them ever, you could if you wanted just to a flat swap and just switch the hinge and that’s it on the mirrors. However, if you are someone like me and have ME-SO Customs DRLs that you want to keep and BSM Mirrors you want to keep, you will have to do a little more modifications. It all is possible so far that I have found. Again, it really just depends what your priorities are and what you want.
