I reinvest it all now, but I don't use a DRIP program. To DRIP is great if you want to buy partial shares of the same stock with the dividend, but I just let it build up for a while in cash and buy what I think is a good deal at the time. Sometimes DRIP will have you buying expensive stocks that might not be the best idea.

jup I love Dividend paying stocks, I just took $6500 cash out from Dividends cash and bought a traditional IRA for 2018 Tax deduction and still have enough cash left for buying whatever I want, its like a gang bang when you got that extra dividend money to use to make more

I guessed 3% so not too good either.

I’ll guess we are up 1% next week.

that money I used was accumulated dividends over a period of at least 10 years, wasn't a 1 year sum, was basically dividends payed by Bristol Myers Squib stock that was getting $300 dividends per quarter over a period of time(years) that I let roll. ive should have paid more attention to the cash accumulation I probably could have bought a max traditional IRA every year and used that as a tax deduction or made other investments with it or cashed it out.

I'm not sure on next week but I'll go with it being up slightly.

I've noticed alot of the global economy seems to be slowing and countries are going into recessions. Does anybody think vtiax is a good buy. If I did I would only put 10% of my 401k contributions into it at most. It's one of the few non us stock funds I can buy through my 401k. It should be cheaper to buy right now.

Yea I was kind of on the fence and that fund is a total market fund of around 6000 companies. Might not do so hot.

If it has that many companies in it I think it is too big to go up or down much. At some point it is so diluted it’s probably like putting money in a bank account with some interest.

The other 91% is probably junk willy Mays sold on TV and Chinese companies that could be seized by the state if they step out of line.
It would be a long list to read through and compare the good vs bad.

I don’t think it’s necessary a bad thing, probably a safe investment, but no way you’re doubling your money in a short time with 6,000 companies.

Edit: It looks like a decent fund with good ratings, but only about a 3% average annual return from 2010 to present. With that bull market you could have picked any stocks and beat that. There has to be better options in your 401k.

My 401k plan at work only has about 10 different funds that aren't target date or bonds. I thought the international fund might be down some since a few countries were in a recession last quarter and China isnt doing good either. So I might buy some while it was lower and sell it in a year or two but it might not bounce back like I thought.

I dont really have any money besides that invested unless you count a money market account and cd's but those are boring. I'm looking at buying a house in the near future so I'm trying to keep my risk low with the money I've saved for a down payment.
