Seeking opinions on wheel backspacing for my beadlocks. I'm considering one 17x8" with 4.25" BS and two different backspacing on 17x9" rims, one set is 3.5" BS the other is 2.5" BS. Which one would be better and why?

How low of BS so you need to keep your tires from rubbing the frame, control arms, etc? I wouldn’t use a super low BS wheel if it’s not needed.

Anything 4.5 or less will clear factory uppers. I rubbed frame every once in a while on my old truck with 315/75’s on 16x8 4.5”bs. However, I think the lift spindles moving everything out 3/4’s of an inch with the 315’s was the cause of that.

@KRAMERICA it all depends on how far you want them to stick out, you’ll clear suspension with any of them. You may run into more rubbing issues than originally anticipated if you go with a low bs like 3.5. I’d stay far away from the 17x9 with 2.5bs. Measure 6.5” off your hubs, and that’s where your outer lip would be, then add tires.

    It never efffing ends.....
My Hutchison beadlocks are 4.1bs 7x8.5 and with the Iroc 35’s rub slightly on the frame.

With the new Vision wheels, with 3.5bs, 7x9 and STT Pro’s there is no more rubbing on the frame.

I get slight rubbing at full compression on the top of the fender well with both setups. I’m planning to add a bump stop spacer to eliminate that though.

Personally I like the look and stance of a wheel with 3.5bs, sticking slightly outside the fender well.

Your wheel bearings and steering rack do not like 3.5” bs though

Is it normal for the front diff's oil to be this color?

I need to do my yearly fluid changes and maintenance on the Tacoma....been too cold...maybe tomorrow. I always find water in something it seems.

    -F/R gear oil
    -Crawlbox oil
    -Tcase oil
-Gearbox oil (3 or 4 years old)

-New poly motor mounts, the crawler likes to rip stockers apart
    -New shifter seat and ball

Not much of a maintenance load this year after bigger projects the last few years is kind of nice

The main reason for this is the fact I didn't install a diff breather when I did the 4x4 swap. I also didnt even have the stock one on there. Just and open tube that now is clogged with mud.20190202_165807.jpg
It was also an add diff that I modified to always be locked so it would work with manual hubs and no vacuum lines. I didnt plug any of those holes either. So mud had many different ways in. It destroyed the thing over a period of about 2 years. 20190202_164347.jpg

All good. Got another one to go back into its place. $300 lesson learned. Also have the stuff to install a diff breather on to this one. Lol
Kinda curious what its gonna look like when I crack the rest of it open.

Would anyone know how to piece together something like this? Just need to know the names of the parts, chiefly the circled one that seems to be the most special.

Option D: buy a $2500 beater commuter. Like a Corolla. Or what @Snowy said.

What is this for/what are you trying to achieve? I would call it a threaded bushing.

It's for my spare tire carrier that's in the bed.
