Bought a new 2016 Tacoma and had three major engine oil leaks in 15K miles. Traded very well with the dealer for an identical 2017. Sport Double Cab Long Bed. Wasn't too crazy about the AT in the 16 or the 17, but now am hearing about a TSB that can correct the horrible shifting. I will be looking into that next week, but my question is, why can't I get a double cab long bed with a manual transmission?

We all want to know the answer to that one!

You're not doing anything wrong, Toyota simply doesn't make one. For me, the MT was worth sacrificing bed length since I wanted the double cab more than the extra bed space. Some people go the other way around and get the Access Cab Sport MT with the long bed.

I'd say either way, we all love this MT. You can't go wrong picking it.

I just went through a similar issue. I wanted an off-road access cab with a manual. Not available, had to get a double cab short bed with the MT.

The auto trans suffers mostly from expectations and driving style. The manual, if you still like shifting gears (some don’t), is rad. Speaking for myself, it’s the best part about my truck. I’d sacrifice configurations to get it.

Yeah the package combos are annoying for sure. I wanted an SR5, access cab, 4x4, manual.. didn't really care about paying for the TRD extras but that was the only option to get the manual with the v6. The MT makes the truck waaay more enjoyable to drive IMO... my buddy has the AT and I can't stand how sluggish/unresponsive it's shifting is. I've heard flashing the ECU helps a lot but I wouldn't really be a fan of messing with that kind of thing on a newish $30k+ vehicle still under warranty. Honestly, if I wanted an auto in my truck I'd probably be looking at the Ranger.

When I test drove a AT equipped truck before ordering my Sport, sorely disappointed in the get up and go, but lucky the MT Sport did better, although they say there is a fix for that. Just wish the reverse was lower geared, harder to go slow backing up, uphill to get firewood.

Drive the truck in S mode. Problem solved.

Yep, I needed double cab, wanted v6, and must be manual, thus the sport is what I got.

Many of us are in the same boat on the manual. I had to have the manual and for from having 1st and 2nd gen off roads (both manuals) went DCSB off road with manual.

I originally wanted an ACOR V6 Manual but the sport was all that came that way so I went with DCOR, was well worth it to get the Manual.

If you want an access cab manual OR, just go up to Canada and buy one :D

Idk why our market doesn’t get it lol.

I'm think Toyota doesn't offer the MT for DCLB for logistical reasons.

    @Island Guy

If you’re gonna keep your truck, you should get OVTune. It made me actually like my auto SR5 on 285’s.
I still got a manual anyway because I wanted a DCSB TRDOR haha. But an OVTuned auto is definitely nice to drive and I could’ve lived with it!

I agree. Reverse gear is too tall & 1st gear is to short imo.

But.... you don't have the RC-62F.

6 gears, fully synchronized. Yes, reverse too. 1-3 have triple cone ring sets.

Some ratios are flat out stupid in this gearbox, reverse being one of them.

We also get an accumulator, which is better off in the garbage.

    That is all.

Bro my reverse is for vertical take off as well. I know your struggle.

That’s the fun part. “Reverse- Just close your eyes and see what happens...because something is gonna happen. Fast.”
