    Hey everyone
I'm new here and I recently purchased a 2019 Sr double cab. I work as a cook but have a refrigeration business on the side. (HVAC/R, I repair and maintain restaurant equipment) I'm working toward being in business full time. So I'm concern that the 4 cylinder motor is not going to be enough for hauling all my tools and ladders. I live in northwest Florida so it's all flat. You guys know these trucks. Should I be concerned or will this truck do what I need it to?

Welcome to TW and great choice on your truck. It’ll last forever

Depends how much all your tools end up weighing?. Are you planning on towing or just putting the tools in the bed?

according to a quick google search you bed payload is 1505 pounds. And towing capacity is 3500 pounds

That being said I wouldn’t go anywhere near that personally. I’m sure your truck will be just fine though.

My cousin tows a small trailer with garden equipment on his 2.7 2016 access cab Tacoma And has zero issues. The 2.7 is bulletproof if maintained properly.

That is the exact model that a lot of business here in Florida buy for their employees.. I’ve seen a/c and pest control and both were full of tools...

I have te same truck... the 4cyl is bulletproof... best choice for work truck..

    Thanks for the info.

Do you have any recommendations for a topper or bed cover with ladder rack system? I'd like something waterproof.

You will be just fine with that truck. I see a pest control business locally that has a SR double cab with a cap and hose reels mounted, and who knows what lies inside the bed. They got it when the 3rd gen was first released and its still going strong today.

np. Honestly I wouldn’t know much else about a ladder rack... but I’m sure if you search the forums you’ll find something. If not make a specific post and I’m sure you’ll get the right guys to chime in.

Great example thanks! For a minute or two i was thinking I made a mistake in getting the 4. Sometimes it just feels sluggish... Although that might be cuz I've driven a 5.4 xlt f150 for the past 3 years...

I’ve never driven the 4 but I’ve read on here that it will go. Just mash the go pedal.

The 2.7L is more than up to the task.IMG_20181226_155734.jpg
That's a whole pallet of green oak, I didn't weigh it but at a minimum I was at max payload. The 4cyl is slow but moves weight very well.

If you plan on carrying constant weight I'd consider adding helper springs, airbags or a new leaf pack.

The 4 cylinder Tacos have the highest payload capacity of any Tacoma. The SR model has the highest payload capacity of the 4 cylinder Tacos.

    You will be fine.

When I lived in Phoenix you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting a white SR work truck with a bed full of something or other ;-)

Your truck is rated appropriately. You probably have a payload of around 1400lbs and 3500lbs of towing. However, do not expect your truck to be fast. This does not mean your engine is not up to the task. It is what it is. if you want fast then get a V6 or higher.

How did you you secure it to the bed?
I've tried using the pieces you slide into the side rail but it is no way secure and slides with some force.
I see you're not using any clamps .

2 straps crossed to the bed d-rings (front left->back right and front right -> back left. 2 straps from side to side across the top using the cleats that slide in the rails, don't crank real tight on those.

I also have a bed mat, and the shrink wrap/2nd pallet on top keeps it acting as a single unit.
