Looking for justifications for making a new tire purchase before my OEM tires are used up. Generally I am a frugal if it aint broke dont fix it type. My last truck was a 2010 Ford F150 4x4 Platinum Ed they the factory put these stupid Pirelli P Zero low profile tires on this 4x4 so I could not wait to get rid of them. The OEM tires on my new 2019 Tacoma arent that bad truthfully. I was only able to keep the P Zeros for 25-28k miles before I bought a set of Dick Cepek A/T and I put 68k on those tires before I upgraded again to Fuel wheels and Firestone A/Ts after I leveled it with Bilstien 5100 Adj struts. What are some good reasons for me to get new tires?

No Reason what so ever.... unless your'e going to do some real off road stuff but then depending how far off road you want to get tires alone just might not cut it... or you want a real tough looking Mall crawler then you got to get them big oversize tires with giant knobs sticking out in all directions that will just look oh so bad ass parked with one wheel up on the curb or that snow pile at the mall.... yeah been seeing a lot of that around here of the late.

However whatever you do get good known brand tires from a good reputable place because your life and others are worth more than saving 50 cents or so on a set of tires.

If you swap them now you can sell your oem tires to get some money back. I was able to get $550 out of mine and my wildpeaks were about $550 so it was a wash. Most aren’t getting $500+ for the oem Goodyear’s, but I got lucky and found someone that wanted them.
They had 180 miles on them.

Life is short and ya can’t take it with you, want new tires? Get them as long as it don’t leave you flat broke and can’t afford to feed the family. I’m doing several things to my Tacoma that I don’t need and probably will never use but just like the looks.

I've never replaced tires until they needed to be changed. New wheels were my excuse to change. Michelin Defenders on TRD Pro SEMA. The tires are grippy, look good and are SILENT.

My Toyota Dealer matched Costco's price. If the dealer broke a TPMS when transferring from OE wheels they could pull a part and replace. They also offered free road hazard. One of the few good "dealer" deals is tires.

Falken Wildpeaks are a great tire for frugal individuals, plus they are a nice upgrade over the Factory Goodyear's.

I have the stock Goodyear tires on my 2019 and had them on my 2016 Sport that I bought off a Pro with the wheels. I think the Goodyear’s are a great all around tire, but no really serious off-roading in Iowa. Plan on my first choice Michelin when these get to 4/32nd’s and lose snow traction. Good luck with your decision! KO’s look good though.

I had the dunlop at20 or whichever , and in 20k miles i had 2 get a big 2 to 3 inch gash in them and leave me stranded. Bought a set of toyo at2s and put 50k on them with no issue. Still had plenty of tread too

    Looking for justification?
Just go get the tires you want and sell the tires you have now. :notsure:

I was almost stuck the first weekend I had the truck with the Goodyears. They were ok in snow, but terrible in mud. I wouldn’t be comfortable with them on trails or even wet farm roads around here, but I mostly ride without alone so there’s no one to pull me out usually.

The stock Goodyears are underrated. Most guys who shit-talk them are just trying to justify their own costly upgrade in their mind. They don’t look as tough as they actually are.

93.69% of all TW members upgrade their tires for looks and an intangible feeling of capability and confidence with a bigger, more aggressive looking tire, but the fact is they could do much of the same Offroad driving on the Goodyear’s just fine.

I know this because I am one of the guys who “upgraded” my tires, but realize the Goodyear’s where just as good, if not much better (snow performance in particular) than K02 for the type of terrain I typically traverse.

YMMV. I was getting stuck and needing to break out recovery gear on the stock wrangler ATs in three inches of icy snow on moderate terrain. No problem with it at all after the KO2 swap.

As for as road tires go these are the best around. The police here in Ottawa use these year-round.

If you could go back to that same patch of snow in your K02 you probably would have died.

I play in woods a bit, and no, definitely not. Mind you the difference was Wrangler w/ about 30k on them vs new KO2s, but in the stuff we have in our mountains the lugs just aren't big enough on the wranglers.

I’m partially digging at you, and also making a point of sorts. There will be some specific snow conditions where K02 work great, but in general, and I’m not the only one who feels this way, they are not deserving of their “triple peak / snowflake” emblem. That was a nice bottle of fine Whiskey and a envelope of cash that passed between BFG and the DOT. A good generalist winter tire they are not. Downright dangerous on icy roads.

Well yeah, they're a big lug AT tire. Contact patches are smaller than road tires as a result. If you want good onroad snow/ice tires, get blizzaks. Not great for NF trails, though.
