RIGHT!! I just had to take my wife's 2013 hybrid super clean running Lexus through emissions testing to get new tags here in Oregon. What a racket. Washington state is proposing eliminating emissions requirements by 2020 and says only 4% of vehicles on the road today don't pass emissions testing and that's due to their vintage. Time for Toyota to bring a Diesel truck to the US and when they do I'm all in.

Y’all aren’t gonna see any drivetrain changes until an entirely new Tacoma arrives in like 8 years or something.

For now it’s a sprinkling of changes to the headlights, radio, and a power seat.

The 2.8 Toyota is all about fuel economy and towing. It accelerates fine for a truck. Toyots is concerned with fleet CAFE standards. If a diesel comes to the states, it will be similar to the 2.8 as far as performance and economy. And I will buy one.

Yup. All the reviews I've seen when I was considering a ZR2 was to avoid the diesel and go with the gas version.

Get yourself a PO Box somewhere in the >66% of the state that doesn’t require testing.

That’s what I did w/ my wife’s VW before we eventually sold it to some schmuck in Multnomah County.

We are still speculating about diesels on this page? Someone mentioned the word "delusional" a few pages back to describe the "derzul!" crowd, I think that was a proper word. lol

Yeah, I don't get why folks here STILL think diesel is coming. There is almost zero demand for it in the US, and they're a nightmare to get them to comply with US emission standards. It ain't happening. Move on.

It's 2019 and we're looking at 2020 and beyond - it's time to start thinking a lot more hybrid, and a lot less diesel and supercharger, and every other ridiculous option that isn't happening.

Agreed, apparently someone on here has a "credible source" that one was going to be coming soon enough.

Ya that and every other youtuber that posts some video claiming they know changes coming. Never gonna happen, we'll see electric/hybrid before diesel.

Like I said, I wouldn't mind a nice plug in hybrid design. One where you have a decent (20-30 miles) of in town electric only range, and can still run the engine as a generator when in the woods.

There is a zero chance you are going to see a factory 3rd Gen diesel. It's not like they just do an engine swap and call it a day, think of all the modification that would be required plus crash testing and EPA certifications needed. The price would be so high and the demand would be minimal.

I waiting for the flaming here, but I'm all about green energy, we are beyond fucked as is and would buy an electric/hybrid truck if given the option in a heartbeat (of course if priced similar to now).

Same. I would be all over an electric/hybrid Taco.

And there should be no flaming. Greenness aside, once electric gets perfected a bit more, it'll be better than combustion in pretty much every way.

I wouldn’t be against it either. If people want faster more efficient trucks than electric is definitely the way to go. The fastest production cars coming out now are all electric. Sure our trucks won’t do 2.9 0-60 like the Tesla Roadster but they will be much faster than they are now that’s for damn sure.

Just the stupid stigma / sterotype that certain types of individuals place on hybrid / electric vehicles. Agree, for the majority of Tacoma driver's needs it would only benefit them.

I think the Prius being associated and synonymous with hybrids for so long really did a disservice to their image - even though now you can get a hybrid in almost everything.

Yeah it will be either very minor updates or some tweaks to keep up....
But after years after only doing body changes to the Tundra I don't expect much...

But if It has an engine upgrade I'm in....

I think you are right, but I also feel like Toyota hasn’t had such comparable competition for a while. The Ranger is gonna sell like hot cakes if the Raptor comes here that’s for sure. They may suck, but they are still gonna have lots of sales.

I agree on the green energy, but where is that green energy coming from? I have been in favor of solar, but just saw something not too long ago that talked about the waste that’s creating. Currently most electricity comes from coal. I know they are worked not on or were working on scrubbing coal plant stacks, but not sure where that is at currently. Hope we figure it out.

Lifecycle CO2 still has electrics being better even running on coal if that's your thing. Though here in the northwest it's almost pure hydro.

Ultimately, if it's cheaper to run, gets more low end torque, and still wheels I'm in. Plus, in some kind of SHTF situation you can get some small amount of range without burning something that you can't get more of (fuel). Remember how bad fuel distribution was during Sandy?
