im really looking at investing in BP PLC $41.34 a share and pays 5.95% yearly dividends its down at one time it was $50.00 per share or above, always gonna need fossil fuels for heating and gas for the Tacos to run on no matter what the Enviro gang says or laws against using it they try to force

me too, if the stock value goes down your still getting an established rate of return although if the stock price goes down it also reduces the dividends return on your money. I think come Monday im going to pull the trigger on some BP stock that's pretty low per share right now they are in involved in oil and natural gas im hedging a bet that oil prices aren't going any lower than they already are, the trend seems that its increasing very slowly so I need to buy low in hopes it creeps up in price. if you compare BP to EXXON its a better buy EXXON is $73 per share and doesn't pay as good a dividend as BP PLC

This may happen at a time like 2008 during a major recession, but in any other time period, good companies won’t cut their dividends. The yield will go up as the price goes down, but the annual payment will stay the same. That (in my opinion) just means it is time to buy to lock in the high yield (yield on cost if you believe in that metric).

I have about 17 companies (out of the 30 stocks I own) off of the dividend aristocrats list. Those have 25+ years in a row of increasing dividends.

The problem with stock prices going down is that dividends won’t be increased by much, because companies aren’t going to pay too high of a yield, but at the worst the dividend should stay the same.

They pay quarterly, Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec.

Most companies pay quarterly, it makes your income lopsided. I get like double the amount one month than another, but that’s just how it is.

I like O (Realty Income) a lot. It’s a great dividend growth company, but also pays dividends monthly.

    Basically

If you can scrape up $500k, and put together a portfolio that yields 4%, you will get $20k a year in dividends. Not as hard as it seems if you have a lot of time!

I would think they pay quarterly every 3 months but some companies can do it differently to be honest I don't know how BP does it im assuming every 3 months, part #2 of your question Hell yes!! where can you get 5.95 % interest? im also looking into some Tax free municipal bonds that are paying 3% and a double whammy is they grow tax free so in the end the real interest rate should be over 3%.

keep reading this thread im learning a lot here, most of the peeps that handle my money over the years weren't aces in making the most of my money im trying to educate myself and read infos on how to invest because in the end the best person to make sure your money works the best for your needs is you, and I worked hard to get it so it means a lot to me to get the best from it in the end.

Debating on selling GE and buying back in after a little downfall.

If you're patient (years) it will pay off regardless of the price you pay.

I think that's just luck, short term prices are not really rational. Good luck though, I am sure you can make some money doing this. I am the opposite, I sell the losers and add to the winners.

Edit: For example, I bought Broadcom (AVGO) a few months ago for probably around $250/share. I have seen it fluctuate from $230 to $275 during that time span. I doubt Broadcom's fundamentals have changed in a few months. There's no rationality here. I will hold this forever though and add to it, I am sure it will be up in 5, 10, 20 years.

That is awesome that you're even interested in this at that age. I am in my 30's and didn't start until recently. I wish I could go back to your age and start. No matter what you do, it's better than most your age!

great news, you're young and $400 may seem like a fair amount, but perfect to experiment with and learn a lot from.

Maybe just creating good entry points if those are on your watch list.

A new territory for me, i might go with taketwo and just get 100 shares since its down 15% and just look for a 5-8% rebound and sell right away
