I think the bolt you circled goes into the bed with the nut underneath the bed as an anchor for the smaller bolt to thread into. You can remove the smaller bolt, as needed, to remove the tire mount from the bed. I think Nick is right a sex bolt...

We see these type of bolts a lot at work with TV and monitor wall mounts.

    Back to the diff swap...

I know how it works lol, I just need to find a way to piece something like this together instead of paying $30 for a kit of two. I need four so that would be $60. No way in hell i'm paying that for some simple hardware. Also those hex bushings are too long to go under the bed without hitting other things, especially the front two.

Hmm I looked that up, it's close but not quite since the OD portion is smooth. Dave's keywords were better but I ended up finding that most of the listings that popped up after searching "threaded bushing" was "hex bushing".

Try to find something like this then.

It's only $16+SH, piece it together cheaper from Fastenal or some other hardware place, and I have the rivnut tool.

That's almost perfect, just seems like it might still be a little long going through the bed? But that's pretty damn close to what I need. Some type of rivet nut for a bolt to go through?

It looks like a rivet nut is the way to go for this application. Now I just need to find some and get the proper tool for it

Why not drill a hole and use bigass washers, bolts and nuts?

That's what it's using now. It's a huge pain in the ass trying to remove it because I either have to have two people, or I have to lay a wrench on the top bolt, crawl underneath and undo the nut and hope the wrench in the bed doesn't slip off. A rivet nut would eliminate the need to crawl underneath the truck to remove the mount

Why would you have to remove it?

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
I have an oem spare tire hanger from a 2nd gen. Would that be of any use for what you are trying to get done?
