    Think we found the source of all the leaks.
    The roof doesn't have solid sheets of plywood for the sheathing. Instead it has 1x6 slates with about 6 inch spacing between them. Looks like the tar paper has cupped do to YEARS/DECADES of water leakage in several places so it pooling in that cup and then overflowing into the ceiling.

    We pushed it backup so it was flat to the shingles and temporarily held it in place by shoving drywall joint knifes under the 1x6 sheathing. The results are promising. It went from a constant stream of water into the house once the tar paper cup filled up to only a little leakage now when the paper gets saturated.

    The plan is to shove tar in between the sheets of paper and then cut 1x6 slates and put them between the gaps in the existing 1x6 slate sheathing and fasten it all together. Hopefully it will last till the summer when I can get the whole house re-roofed.
