Wrote about blown head gasket a few weeks ago. Now considering replacing the engine.

Does anyone know about the sites on IN that search for used engines in junk yards or have the junk yards call you? Claim to have low milage engine (<75K) for a reasonable price, but how the heck would anybody know if honest?

Also, the proprietors (or just the phoners?) have strong accents like too many spammers. A trend in the junk yard industry? Four called me today after a few searches......

A $6000 Jasper plus 25 hours labor to R & R is a lot for me, but probably the surest way to go

Checked out one - Zaxon. Not a member of BBB but gets an "F" rating anyway!

    Another example is: www.usedpart.us. Thanks!

    www.car-part.com is a popular option.

Don't know if they do this for 2nd Gens, but low mileage (Under 100k) imported JDM engines are available on eBay for a decent price.

Thanks for all your replies and suggestions. Did some research and found most "suppliers" have terrible reviews and many are owned by the same people. Ask for a photo and they hem and haw as they have no inventory (or bad engines? - never received a photo). Horror stories about engines filled with salt water, wrong parts the customer pays to ship back, extra charges on credit cards etc.

The ones you guys recommended sound good. I was surprised to find quite a few complaint about Jasper Engine units. Smoking or knocking; the smoke after broken in. I know unhappy people review suppliers more, but h'mmm.

Local shop wants to get truck in and check it out, but even with scope don't know what they can see......

Resolution after parking it for months - took it to a shop that sells Jaspers. He said "let me look - maybe you don't need a new engine". He tore it down and found a head gasket leak. Looked like a small chunk of black paint - less than half a corn flake, was missing. He planed the heads .003, and put it back together twice (missed a cog on one cam and told me immediately), with new timing components.

Charged $4000. Runs like it always did. Much better than other shops quotes of $12,000. I'm happy. Thanks again for the suggestions.
