TRD Off Road 6MT

I think it is something like 04A01 or 04B01 or ?? The 2018s were 04A70 Pre-TSB and 04A71 Post-TSB.

 

How and where would I do this? I love this truck hate how it shifts from 4th to 5th. I shouldn’t have to pay for a tune on a brand new truck. Hoping it works its self out.

 

04B40 AND 04B41 for '19s.

Even tuned, you cannot mail that shift in lol.

At least with the ADM, you know exactly when the clutch is going to engage!

To the guys saying that you just need to learn this truck and adjust - I get that. And more power to you.

I will say that I've never met a M/T vehicle I couldn't get used to within a few hours of driving it. Not so with my '16 Taco. It forced me to learn what I call a fucked up way of driving.

Meh, i decided to pay the price of admission and get it the way I wanted it. Tuned and deleted, much happier with it now.

Edit: before you try and rip me a new one, remember my truck is a very early production 3rd gen. Toyota has since updated their calibrations.

I just talked to my wife and she said with ours it was her fault, clutch throttle timing. Said it hasn’t done it for sometime since she has changed things up. It’s never done any clunking for me, but I don’t drive it as much as her.

On the test drive we both drove it and it was good to go.

 

i agree, and also to say that i have had to work harder to learn how to drive this vehicle well than any vehicle in my history and that's saying something. the reward is great, but i've also been hitting as many details as possible and that's not for everyone. but it's super fulfilling once you get it in the ballpark. the stock truck like i said was a miserable drive. now it's just damn amazing. between the two was mod work and learning how to use it, no shortage of either.

 

Yeah I’ve been driving MT now for about 6 years and never had this problem with other vehicles. My last manual before this truck as a 92 Nissan Hardbody.

 

Can we all agree that reverse is too damned high and that engineer should be fired lol?

 

I have to smack the shifter to get it in reverse. That’s a problem. Lol

 

Mine was decent, but not rewarding, esp that there was never a chill shift. Now, it's pure .

Exactly. I was stoked to have an MT, but the normal feel was not there. Now, it is.

 

THAT will work it's way out with mileage. Or it gets more familiar, dunno. There's no lockout, so I guess a heavy spring is good.

Also, the crunchy feeling syncho engagement in some gears will all but go away over time. 2nd and 3rd were the worst in my truck.. it's still there a tiny bit when upshifting to 3rd.

 

The reverse spring is very stiff. I go from the resting neutral to reverse. Trying from between 1st and 2nd makes it feel too stiff.

 

Yeah that’s what I do, but I do a light “tap” and she slides right on in there.

 

My 2013 did this also... Shifting that manual trans sucked for a couple reasons...

I think part of it is a relatively heavy flywheel, making shifts jarring if you're not used to it. A lighter flywheel would make that shift much less jarring, but also harder to get a vehicle (potentially heavy when loaded or towing) started. It's very much a "this is a truck, not a sports car" transmission problem.

Also, another thing I noticed was tremendous amounts play in the mounts for the transmission and engine. That leads to weird behavior when it's all torqued up (clutch engaged) vs disengaged

 

It sounds like you got it. I'd rather have the stiff spring than a lockout collar or some other mechanical thing.
