I am in the market for a used camper shell for my Tacoma. I want used because in a 1.5 years I will get a GFC or Vagabond Drifter camper. Just need something in the meantime to cover the bed, dont want a soft topper.

I found a ProTops camper shell. 1 year old and in excellent new condition setting for $1,000. Searching ProTops brand and not information their website says manufacturing for 30 years, but I cannot find much info on them.

Any input in the brand? Pull the trigger and get it?

I don't know the brand. But $1,000 for a topper that looks basically like every other ARE or Leer topper I've seen and has all those options seems like a good deal. You'd spend $2500 or more to get a Leer or ARE with all those options.

Rock the thing for a year or two and sell it when you're done. You'll get almost all if not all your money back. Seems like a good deal to me.

My grandpa has a protop on his f150 and it’s not too shabby. One thing I definetly noticed was the paint is kinda shitty atlest on the white. It’s a basic shell with very basic hardware.

All shells are made out of fiberglass so they should be all equivalent. Maybe it comes down to what kind of hinges and latches, etc one uses.

    Awesome thanks for the feedback!

The one I listed I talked him down to $1,000 even. Its only 1 year old and original owner.

What I have seen some of these camper shells are not the original owner and hard to tell how old they are.

I had one on my last Tacoma. I got full options for the price of an ARE without any options. What the dealer told me was that they are made in Riverside, CA and use the same material and molds as the bigger names. Quality was nice and had no issues with it. I would say go for it.
