    Hmmm.....

Value is in the eye of the beholder so:

I love my Pro grille. I like the look and it makes me happy so that was great value to me.
My second set of OEM rims and winter tires were a great addition.
Hondo radio knobs are a nessecity.
Led interior lights are much brighter and useful.
My bed mat is a nessecity.
My upgraded sound system makes my time in the truck more enjoyable.
Bed divider in like new condition for only $50 isn’t a daily nessecity but great for the days I need it.
ESP cubby mount for tekonesha P3 brake controller was a great way to mount my controller.

My mods are simple and purposeful. Aside from the grille which is for looks everything else has a function and I would do again. The bed divider is absolutely useless and then I need it again and don’t know how I lived without it.

I think OP answered his own question. It all comes down to what is it that you/consumer want’s. It’s called consumer added value. You as the consumer decide if A,B, or C product is worth your time, effort and hard earned money. Best wishes on to mod or not to mod.

wow - talk about over analyzing a question haha

i'd say the stuff i've done has added value to me regardless if i am able to retain any monetary value if i ever sell the truck.

1: tint - sick if squinting. value add that i appreciate daily.
2: cup holder inserts - sick of hearing my plastic cups rattle. value added daily that i'm not annoyed by rattling cups.
3: husky liners - keeps crap off the floor that i have to vacuum up later.
4: LED's - improves my night time vision.
5: 4.88's - expensive but made the truck vastly better to drive.
6: roll up tonneau - keeps my crap in the bed from getting too wet (not a perfect seal)

less stress in my life is a value add to me. if it keeps me from having to expend more energy and time in the long run, well then it's value added. :)

It’s like welfare. You get paid for doing exactly nothing.

Wheels, tires, chainsaw, recovery gear and a phone mount. I'm already done.

Edit: Omitted seat covers, bed mat, WeatherTechs and diff breather relocate.

But I think that IS it.

I'm not hating on Prerunners, They do have there place in certain parts of the country. I've owned one in the past, just got tired of getting stuck.

Agreed. I lived in two rural areas during my non truck days. Yes, it would have been nice/easier.

However, I needed a car for my work (company reimburse) and the MPG was important to me on my personal miles. And the wife needed a car as well.

So the trailer worked out just fine.

Glad i'm not the only one. My final mods ended last week. Re-did all my wiring and switches, including adding rear lights into factory holes. And did a stretch boot mod along with vinyl TRD wheel cap covers.

Spent a bunch of money on mine to allow me to get to where I enjoy life. Further out away from day to day life. Stock the truck could of but major damage was gonna happen now we can venture out a little more carefree. Plus wife laid the law down I’m allowed one toy with a motor and wheels almost went bankrupt with bikes an a little drag car.
So having a capable truck increases our experiences an social circle for wheeling events etc. For us it was an investment to our quality of life with knowing we’d never see that expenditure of money return, which we are able to do not having kids:D

We could probably analyze 90% of the things we own in the 1st world and determine they have no real value, but yet we put ourselves in debt chasing after them. lately I've been trying to appreciate what I already have and stop worrying about the stuff I don't have and don't need.

It's a vehicle that is built to take you to and from places. Anything extra you do to it is a waste of money. I've wasted some money on mine as well. But at least we think they are purdy.

When I think about doing a mod on my truck, one of the first things I ask myself is "Do I really NEED this?". Now...I know this can potentially open up a whole other topic because all we really NEED is food, water, and a good nights sleep. However, I think about the things that I would like to be able to do with my truck and use it for (ride on the beach, drive across the country, hunting, fishing, camping, ect.) and then evaluate if the mod will make a significant difference in my ability to do so.

For example, I'm never intending to go rock crawling on my truck so it would not make much sense for me to buy sliders. It would however make sense to get a camper shell because it allows me to carry more hunting/camping gear while protecting it and keeping things dry.

I lean towards doing things that are more for practical purposes vs aesthetics. However, I do appreciate a good looking truck but I'm not going to go broke simply because I want it to look better or "be cool". I know everyone has their opinions and value things differently but it does not make any sense to me to spend thousands of my hard earned cash on a truck just to turn it into a mall crawler.

The whole reason I bought a reliable truck is so that I can DO stuff that only a truck can do.

I'd say the speaker upgrade is a worthwhile mod.

I won't argue that a truck is useful, but I owned a home for 20 years without ever owning a truck. I rented the Home Depot truck once when finishing my basement and even if I owned a Taco then it wouldn't have hauled the stuff I hauled. I also paid for delivery once and that stuff also wouldn't have fit in a Tacoma or any truck really that wasn't a big flatbed. I also hauled plenty of stuff to the dump in my Outback and brought bricks, flagstones, and bags of soil home in it. Now that I have a truck I've used it once to haul stuff that wouldn't have worked in the Outback without making a couple trips.

So, no, every homeowner doesn't need a truck and quite a few of my neighbors seem to manage just fine without one. Now, if you want a truck and it meets other needs then, sure, it's handy to have.
