Just found this thread. broke the hydraulic line between the accumulator and the slave cyl for my MT trans when trying to get the flare nut off when pulling the tranny.
bought a new one from the local yota dealer, but when I got it home this weekend it didn't fit. bends weren't correct. but length was almost perfect and had the right flare fittings on it.

So I bent it and made it work haha. had to bend the cover plate to accommodate it now though. nbd.
hoping there's no restriction in the line now though.

now i'm wondering if I shouldn't just delete the whole accumulator while I have the tranny out...
    is it a big improvement?

When look for options to do this mod, I found that there were a few different line setups.

No matter what, yes. Delete the accumulator. I got my starting info from you 2nd Gen folks.

Good deal, thx! I was gonna say, this looks exactly the same as my 2nd gen.

Will do! Prolly use the flex line.
    Cheers

If you already have the hard line from Toyota, you may be able to grab a coupler and put it in line to replace the accumulator. You'll probably need to open up the bends a little on both the upper and lower tubes, to get them to line up and join the coupler.

Decided it would probably be better to summon you from the correct thread but is there any disadvantage to doing it the dremel way instead of the hard line way? I have very little mechanic type experience. I change my own oil, that’s about it. And the hard line way seems a little bit outta my league although I’m always down to try.

Most of the replies in this thread are over my head! Lol

No disadvantage that I can tell,it really is quite simple The only hard part is getting your hands and tools in where they are needed.

you need the same hand tools to do either method. The Dremel method will be "invisible" to anyone who is under the vehicle. Just make sure you clean it out well before you re-install.

Busted this out today. Thanks for the part numbers & tips. $10 at autozone and 20 min under the truck and I’m accumulator free! 95B0462C-0B30-46FD-BBD5-222BBEDF22F5.jpg

RA60F.... I am so glad Toyota stopped using that transmission.

I have no experience with this 2nd gen stuff, but did that transmission have a non-retarded reverse ratio at least?

    ADM FTMFW.

Toyota has always had terrible reverse ratios. The 94 Toyota pickup I had was really no different than my 17 when it comes to reverse.

Like @Shellshock said reverse has been crazy for a while with Toyota. The cast in input shaft nose was the problem with this transmission. I killed several of them in my FJs really aggravates me because I loved everything else about the FJ platform.

Well, the RC-62F doesn't have that nose - and obviously no pilot bearing in the end of the crank. So I guess we won't have THAT problem lol.

I just don't get it.... What engineer thought it would be necessary to go 40 Mph in reverse? I want to believe it was a packaging problem, but that means they were also too lazy to spend any time finding a solution. They have apparently had enough time and multiple chances to correct the problem. It is a problem, and I also don't believe that they haven't gotten complaints about it.

Sure. A lower reverse ratio would require a larger gear, but at least make it same ratio as 1st.

But then, all of our MTs were that way, even our Geo Metro. 1st: 3.42, Reverse: 3.27.

Yeah, but that's fine for a car... For a truck able to tow 6k it's just stupid.

It wasn't great on our other cars that we towed with. Some slipping to reverse even a light trailer. Thankfully, no issues up to the time that we sold them.

I'm still looking forward to the 2Lo mod.
