I've had a couple really old whiskeys and I think they're tasty, but many of them can taste overly wooded. Like they've sat too long. Single grains age well for long periods of time like that. I don't know about balvenie though I haven't had any old malts and I haven't had anything older than their portwood.

The Lagavulin 31 I tried was interesting though. The smoke was almost totally gone (comparatively), and so was the peat and iodine. Instead it was creamy and tasted like plums, chocolate, raisins, and some other stuff i couldn't pick out. Really good.

Here's my walk of shame after a wedding in Cabo San Lucas a couple months ago. My friend spotted me at about 10am on his way out of brunch. Didn't get her name, phone number or room number....but I sure as shit took the half full bottle of 1942 from the night before. I'm not a fan of any tequila...but that label changed my opinion

Not something you hear often :)

Perhaps you meant: "...I'm not a fan of any tequila...but that label changed my opinion..." + "of her". @dumontrider

Aaahhhh, to be young, good looking, and predominantly care free again. Well, for me two out of three would be a win.

I'll report back as soon as I open it. I planned on doing so this weekend, but my folks came over with some friends of theirs. One of the guys has bought a bunch of BBQ rub from us, so, naturally, I did some cooking, then offered up some whiskey. Turns out, the guy is a fan of scotch, but doesn't know what he likes or why, just that there are a few recognizable labels that he sticks with. He was also fascinated by rye whiskey.

I gave him pours of Compass Box Delilah's XXV, High West Midwinter Night's Dram, and Ardbeg Grooves. Pretty solid flight. A port finish rye with two very different scotches on the bookends. I had pours, too, then finished with a 1792 Full Proof store pick. The palate was a bit weary, so I didn't open the Double Rye. Perhaps this weekend.

Next stop, the barrel proof version!

Barrel proof version of almost anything are hard to get here in NC. Last week was the 1st time I had even seen 4 Roses Single Barrel in my 6 month Bourbon journey.

Not impossible to find here, but it does take some patience. Can't just walk in and expect to see it on any shelf. Even then, you certainly can't be picky about which recipe you'll find.

Been doing Whiskey about 6 months now. This is my current collection I've gathered over that time other than the Jameson.
I think they look quite nice against the Curly Maple hutch I made a few years back.

I recently ventured into Rye and this was the first bottle I picked up. It will definitely be a repeat purchase as it is delicious.

Great hutch exceeded only by the great collection.

I'm using an old armoir. It's wood and looks nice, but that looks really classy. Nicely done.

Never tried it, but it's on my radar, now!

Nice, just picked some of this up myself! Local store had it for $18, so I bought both of the ones they had.

Heard nothing but good about it so far, may have to crack it open tonight. The Cask Strength version is supposed to be awesome.
