I wasn't referring to you. There are folks in the community, though, that come across as very anti-advancement. I'm referring the folks that are still clinging on to the defense of the rear drums because the current brakes are good enough. Or that don't think the camera lines should turn because you shouldn't NEED them to get out of a spot.

Basically, there are plenty of folks that basically want these trucks to be reskinned trucks from the 70's. lol

Yeah a hybrid would be incredible, but there is no way it's happening in a refresh.

    +1

At a minimum, many of these features that the Tacoma is lacking and on other competitor models, should at least be on the higher end Tacoma models and leave the base models for those that want less features.

Understood - and I actually wish there was an option - for guys like me - with an electronic delete on things like touch screen radio, cameras, etc. I want the ability of a new , capable, dependable truck to drive around my farm/river, without the worry of electronics I will not appreciate or use - I like simple - for me it is not really an issue of money. I understand and appreciate progress, but for me it is subjective as I view the ability to simplify things to actually be progress as well. Many years back I had a new 1989 Grand Wagonner - my favorite car by far I've ever owned if I was totally honest. Thinking about getting another one from The Wagonmaster - just not sure I want to pay 70-80K for a truck that I bought new for probably half that. Have a good day and stay safe.

Not sure I agree with you there,at least not 100%. Example: I have a coffee thermos that in 20 years have had 0 changes. I am on my 3rd one in those 20 years. The color, shape, size, and all features are the same. I have only replaced is due to damage I have somehow caused. I do not want it to change, no need for a digital readout, larger capacity, changed materials, nothing. AS far as I am concerned, I want to to remain the same for the foreseeable future if not longer. Why would I want a convenitnet, effective, and durable (breaking 2 in 20 years is not a bad track record for a >$20 thermos)?? Most of use can come up with several examples of "it ain't broke, don't fix it" and "there is nothing wrong with ___ it just works"

Here I am with you. As long as things are options no problem in my mind. Don't want 4x4, no problem; no bird's eye view, no worries; multi zone temp control not for you?, forget about it; and so forth. Pay to play.

Everything comes at a cost. Durable, dependable, easy to fix cost advanced tech and weight/economy. Advancing tech risks dependability, alienation of some consumers, repair cost increases ect.

The big PROBLEM is that most car manufacturers don't work completely that way. I have a 2x4 Limited and I have 0 doubt that I am paying, in the base price, for part of the 4x4 development. Why? because I bought a truck that is part of a platform. The tooling of my frame, brackets etc will allow for 4x4 thus my cost includes those attachment points at the VERY least. I did not want a moonrof at all, but I did want all the other features that came with the package that included the moonroof. So I got a damn moonroof, like it or not.

So, if Toyota adds more features we all get to pay a little more for it to be on some of the trucks, or as an option. Many of the folks who do not want disc brake, blue tooth, satellite radio, heated seats, moonroofs, etc would rather they not be offered because they know that the offering means their price goes up for all.

In addition to that, adding the complexity of one or more features to the vehicle raises maintenance costs for every owner of the platform. Do you think that plastic bumpers reduce repair need/cost for someone without BSM? Nope, steel bumpers are much harder to damage and many time with minor damage go without repair. But with the plastic bumper caps a minor off-road SNAFU such as the bumper dragging through the mud/dirt due to misread in the drop/angle can cost you a replacement where a steel bumper would likely cost a few minutes washing mud out of it.

I've never had an issue with my manual seat or drum brakes that would make me want them changed to something else. Go ahead and put garbage like that in a limited or other luxury package for the people that want it. I'd much rather have manual seats and a rubber flooring in a TRD OR.

just my opinion, but i think that the drum brakes would be better on the rear because if you get stuck in some sand or what have you, you wont have all the gunk on the brakes, and drums last longer than disc brake pads

in 1989 that 'new' wagoneer had technology of the day. you didn't buy it and say i want model-t levels of technology because it was more reliable.

any time you buy something new you are getting a snapshot of technology at the time of purchase. if you don't want that, buy used.

this site has a weird demographic of 60+ yr olds who are adverse to change and 20 something redneck preppers.

I’m trying to do the math here.. 2-3k for a pro, 1k for an iPhone, 1k for iPad.

That’s being generous... all his statements are now suspect... o_O

OMG I cannot believe people want and are defending drum brakes on a 2020 model year anything with wheels. Silly.

It really is something. I mean, yeah, they technically do the job - but to defend them to the point of NOT wanting or caring about disc brakes is absurd. lol

It is a little absurd that they still exist. I just keep wondering, if its such a big deal, why do all these guys buy them and then complain? I see no reason to defend them either. Seems kinda cheap, but they work. Too much damn energy wasted complaining. Live with it or move on. If everybody moved on, Toyota would have to change it. Simple. And it still stops better than my last vehicle with 4 wheel disc so I can't complain except it seems cheap and I'd expect 4 wheel disc. Didn't stop me from buying and not complaining.
