Actually it adds up fast - we have 3 teenagers, plus my wife and me...we have 5 macbook pros (they were 2500/3000 each I believe), 2 27" iMacs (not the pros - but they were around 5500 each) plus hooks ups (to speakers/printers and such). I did not count ipads/iphones since those are mobile devices and we had some of those, so it wasn't part of the switch i referenced.

4unner and Tundra have disc brakes for all wheels, it's a bit of a joke.

Ha - lots of folks throwing out insults - I've just given opinions and tried to be respectful. Perhaps I'm older but I do find folks insulting using a keyboard to be more than suspect. I replied to the person above - didn't think he was being sarcastic - but the math is actually not that difficult to do.

Yes, Toyota Is way ahead in the area of brakes. Everyone knows drums are the future. Maybe they will take your suggestion and keep the drum brakes and maybe even add them to the front. There’s a rumor that the 2020 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is going to drum brakes because there much better off road and great in wet and icy conditions.

lol I was just being smart about the computers thing. Only really watching the thread to see the points people make. Personally, as long as my vehicle stops when I need it to, I could care less. I’ve never had an issue with rear drums but not pro or anti either.

Three teenagers?! You sir are a brave man! :annoyed:

It had the features I liked - the year before I bought my wife a 733 (may have been 735) - the BMW had far more tech than did the Jeep but for me the Jeep was terrific - though my wife enjoyed/appreciated the tech features. The tacoma I just bought is more capable than was the Jeep however not wanting a truck to be loaded with electronics doesn't make me averse to change it makes me value different things than you do.

HA! brave - not sure about that but I will say it is MUCH more costly than I ever dreamed - one in college and in 3 years I will have all 3 in school....so the prescribed descriptive word is probably fiscally challenged (rather than brave).

I'm not gonna defend toyota for using drum brakes, but i am pretty sure i read somewhere that the tacoma had shorter stopping time than the colorado with discs.

I would think the engineers at toyota have a reasoning behind using them...but my biggest guest is to keep costs down, not only for them but the consumer.

As far as the 4runner and tundra having them, they are both heavier vehicles and I'm sure toyota knowns there would be more passengers inside.

I honestly don't care either way. As far as the powered seats and led lights i feel like we shouldn't have to pay extra for the seats that have been around for like 30 years. You would think it should come standard with a 35k truck.

Most other new manufacturers have leds now too...guessing they will probably put it with technology package so you have to pay more.

So back on topic...what do you guys think the new trd pro is now? I'm guessing land cruiser or sequoia, but I've read there will be trd pro updates across the board.

I'd be fine with that. While I don't need or want back lines that turn, power seats etc, I don't mind them being available to those that do.

My main concern is a form of feature creep, where all the stuff like that becomes standard and one day we're looking at 50k for a 2wd base model.

My motto is keep base models basic.

Toyota is going to settle the drum vs disc debate with the 2020 model. They’re going to tell us all the reasons why the disc now are better than the drum no need for us to argue about it.
So if you believed Toyota earlier for the reasons why they thought Drum brakes were better you’re gonna have to believe Toyota now when they give you all the reasons why disc brakes are better.

Exactly or had the drums lock up due to cold/damp weather. Drums should not be on modern vehicles costing as much as a Tacoma period.

Disc brakes would be good, eltrci seats, nah. I like that the seats are manual and really how often do you guys move your seats?

They are probably used to paying $0.05 for a bottle of soda and run around talking about how “they just don’t ma them like they used to.”

Drum brakes blow when compared to disks. This is another debate where people were appalled that the T4R Pro now comes with a sunroof. Again, it’s not like power seats, sunroofs, disk brakes, etc are new experimental or innovative technology. They’ve had decades to perfect it. TBH though if Toyota COULDN’T put out a vehicle with reliable rear disk brakes, power seats or some other small common feature, I would be suspect of the brand’s so-called reliability claims.

this is what google is saying about drum brakes

Here are some advantages that drum brakes have over disc brakes: Drum brakes can provide more braking force than an equal diameter disc brake. Drum brakes last longer because drum brakes have increased friction contact area than a disc. Drum brakes are cheaper to manufacture than disc brakes.
