Hi there, I am very new to Off-roading but have become addicted to learning about it. I know this has been asked a million times, but I want to run 285/70/17s on my 2019 off road Tacoma. I need suggestions on how to achieve this. Some people say a 3 inch kit isn’t enough while others say they have a 2 inch and clear. I am wanting to put BFGs KM3s on with a -12 offset wheel. The Toyota dealership wanted to charge me around 1400 for a ready lift kit and from everything I have read, spacers create a rough ride and aren’t kind to the rest of the parts. I figured I could get a decent suspension lift for that kind of money but need help deciding what is best. I currently dont do any extreme off roading but love function just as much as looks. Thank you for any information.

A 0 offset wheel will help with fitment and less rub.
For that money you could get bilstein 5100s, ome 888 coils and an add a leaf. If you add new uca’s that could put you close to budget without install. Not sure where you live, but maybe a local member could help you with install if you’re not comfortable doing it yourself.

I did a spacer / block lift (2.25"/1") for now. There's no real off road opportunities around my area anyway, unless specifically wheeling. I bought 4x4 for vacationing to the mountains and the desert southwest locations we enjoy cycling in. I bought some Pro Tacoma style wheels that are 16 x 8 with 0 offset. I hope to be able to come back here and comment on 285's when I get them. I will upgrade suspension most likely when the truck gets paid off. At least that's the deal I made with my wife!

Get some Bilstein 6112/5160s and dont stress it - still feel like they are the best bang for your buck and ride much better than the 5100s i had prior. As for the 285s, everyone's experience seems to be different - i would see if there is a true offroad shop in your area to work with, so when it doesn't work the first time its not a big deal to take the next step. In reality, 2-3" and the proper offset should allow you to run 285s no problem.

If you have a manual, 285s will definitely dog your truck a bit FYI.

Just go skinny 33's in either 255/75/17 or 255/80/17. No trimming, cutting blah blah blah.

I'm running the ReadyLift 3/2" spacer kit with 17x8.5 (-11 offset) wheels and 285/70 tires. I did perform the cab mount chop because they would have rubbed otherwise.

Heavy walled DOM. I had them inspected when they arrived.

I bolted them on. There are a bunch of vendors that make some real nice sliders here on TW.
