Hey guys quick question. A few days ago when it was blisteringly cold in NY I parked my truck with the brake on. When I returned to the truck and released the brake it was frozen on. Felt like the passenger side was stuck. Basically when it let go there was a typical pop of the brake letting go. My main thing is now their appears to be a 'dead' spot in the tension on the handle when I am setting the parking brake. Any suggestions of what to check out? the parking brake still works fine just curious.

so that's definitely a common thing here, ice in the rear drums freezing up. Happens to me all the time.......that said, I haven't had the "dead spot" on the parking brake afterwords and have no idea what you might want to look for.

I'm in for suggestions in case this happens to me some day

I was also worried about doing damage to the brake shoes and parking brake cables. If anything I can make an appointment with the dealer and have them look at it just to ease my mind. I wasn't thinking when I set the brake I just hate leaving the weight of the vehicle on the transmission. I have always used the parking brake in all my cars and trucks.

Not sure how much they've messed with the center console on 2016+, but on earlier, you could pry the cup holder tray up and out, and if you looked in there, you could see where all the cables are connected. There is one main cable that pulls on a metal bar, and at the two ends of the bar, the cables to the two back wheels.

And I'm not sure even what you can mean by a "dead spot". Do you mean that it skips a few clicks on the ratchet?

Yes it feels like it is skipping clicks and just jumping up about a 1/4in then it goes back to normal feeling the rest of the way.

That's pretty weird. Its just a toothed shaft with a spring loaded pin that bounces on them. The *only* think I can think of that would cause that would be either stripped teeth, or something stuck in them.

Sounds like a rear brake shoe or parking brake cable adjustment is needed to me.
Have the dealer check it out.

Glad I don’t have to deal with freezing conditions anymore!
