Yup all cleaned up. There's some spots i need to go over lightly to get rid of some haze but I just need to seal the grout joints and it'll be done

 

Advice wanted. I have a 15 yr old Trane xl 80 100,000 btu heater that is not working. Needs about $800 in parts and labor to replace gas valve and pressure switch. Should I have it repaired, or start shopping for a new unit? Sounds like new unit would be about 4k installed.

AC unit is working but also 15 years old. Seer 13. Would you replace it all at same time?

 

I would buy a new high efficiency unit. Especially if I planned on being in the home for more than a few years.

I would get quotes to do both at once and individually. Typically its much cheaper to do both at the same time but I think it depends on the set up.

I live in Sacramento, I'm not sure it's worth it for me to get a high efficiency unit. Are variable speed fans worth the upgrade over two speed?

I’m not sure.
I was under the impression that as long as you don’t have an ancient unit all fan speeds were adjustible it just had to be done manually.

I am not sure what the benefits of the variable speecare.

 

Trane's are good units. I had one in TX and fire ants got into it and shorted something out but it still was running. Even the AC guy was looking at it like this shouldnt be running at all.

If you live in an area where the unit won’t be running that often, you probably won’t see a ton of benefit by going with a high efficiency condensing unit. If you lived somewhere cold where the unit is going to be running at or close to full load for large portions of the winter months, you’d be more likely to see energy savings

 

We don't see snow here. Lows in the thirties, highs avg low 50s in January.

House is 2250 sq ft. Current unit is 100k btu 2 stage.

So , 2 days late due to snow but we poured our slab and retaining wall footings this morning . Guys are finishing the slab now , footings are wrapped up in insulated tarps .

17 1/2 yards up over the roof and inside with the 30m boom pump . It literally barely was able to fit in the driveway and set up stabilizers

I decided to repair. If I can get a few more years out of it I can upgrade entire hvac system at that time, instead of doing it one component at a time.

 

Slab all tightened up and finished .

 

What I would do.

 

Look up SMUD rebates and contractors. After 3 bids, I ended up with Fox Family Heating and Air. Colin is awesome, thorough, and detailed. He continues to do annual service on both my units. We had several challenges, and they just slayed the project.
