Without spending a lot of time price shopping, an OEM Toyota MAF sensor is $170+/- . Obviously you could save some by using aftermarket from Autozone or where ever. I'm not going to price out all intake parts Toyota COULD say are no longer covered with an aftermarket CAI but you get the point.

I tow a 18’ boat from PA to RI every summer about 300 miles. Ive had the TRD CAI since 5k miles...30k on the clock now...I’m happy with it...works well with my other engine mods.

Actually when using a K&N Filter top on a round open element air filter the end result is disrupted air (turbulence) over both the venturi's boosters and air bleeds in the carb . It's also well known that turbulent air can & will cause turbulence over the bowl vents of a Holley causing driveability issues

When you put the metal lid of a open element air cleaner you get much better air flow and even better flow when using a domed lid

I was able to pick up a TRD intake for $300 during Black Friday. It's good but not great. I did notice a slight increase in throttle response but it was too quiet for me. Cut off the resonator box. Much better for my ears now. It I had to do it again I'd pick up a HPS intake tube and possibly an aftermarket filter and keep the OEM airbox. Cost for those parts would be about $200.

@407guy I would like to know more about how you cut off the resonator box. Did you have to replace the tube and if so with what, or did you block off where you cut? The HPS intake tube would not have the vacuum tube connector too. I'm just curious if it is worth all that extra work. Was there a big sound difference? Thanks...

I believe the HPS has the vacuum tube to utilize. And I used the TRD connectors for my resonator delete.

And yes, the delete was worth it from the standpoint it gave me additional sound -- which is what I wanted.

Some more pictures of the surgery:

Thanks for the pictures! That last picture, is that a flex seal tape? If so, I wonder if it can be placed on the inside w/o cutting off the resonator. Just a thought. Thanks again @407guy for step by step photos.

You're welcome. What I used to cover the now exposed hole was a silicone intake/turbo tube from eBay. Have to say it was a bitch to put on. Snug fit.

I purchased this one and cut it down to fit the TRD intake tube:

Bro put some clamps around the boot over the tube.. you're giving me anxiety just thinking about it. When the silicone goes through enough heat cycles, it's not gonna be so snug anymore. You will then be pumping un-metered, and potentially dust ridden air right up your fanny. Why? You can get a pack of like 6 clamps for 2$. 10/10 for creativity. 3/10 for execution.

Would not advise this. Lots of air flowing in there, if it becomes unstuck it can only mean trouble. I dont care what Phil Swift says!
