Seriously, if my dad had a machine shop & business I would have loved to learn & take over the shop/business.

 

i cant do a 2 hr drive to work every day lol

 

I wouldn't mind having him as a neighbor

 

There's a Toyota dealership in Lafayette

 

My grandfather was the head of all the shops at the California Academy of Sciences.
And his dad owned a knife sharping business

As a kid i got to go behind the sense for everything at the academy.
We actually have some of the old equipment he designed And built to show off different stars and planets that were in the planetarium.

 

yea but my parts manager likes me and gives me parts for cheaper than even normal employee price.

Good question. But im the only one to get any kind of college schooling out of all them. Infact my grandfather didn’t even complete high school

 

Gotta cover some topics, really isn't terrible, probably finish tomorrow I guess.

 

The ol ghetto anysize belt actually works?

 

I don't know about ghetto. Fenner Power Twist belts are great belts for machinery. They don't develop bumps if left sitting too long and they help absorb vibrations. I would never use them for automotive use, they're not designed for automotive use anyway.

 

I think my table saw had one, it was old though. Slipping was my only complaint.

 

I also have a Fenner link belt on my air compressor & had it on my old bandsaw. When I got my current lathe the belts caused vibration from developing a lump from sitting so long but to be fair it was a cheap China belt.

I've never had slipping issues but then again my lathe has dual belts. Been using the same belts for 9-10 yrs now. I've never tried brands other than Fenner though. Nothing wrong with a good quality V-belt.

The motor on my lathe is single phase so sometimes it transfered a funny swirl pattern on the surface finish. The Fenner belts completely eliminated it. With standard belts I had to run them loose to eliminate that pattern but then I would have slipping issues under heavy load.

I've been wanting to put a 3 phase motor on my lathe with a vfd but it's on the bottom of my not so important list.

 

So a Tesla has a lathe motor on it

 

As much as I hate Tesla, I watched some video where some company that specializes in reverse engineering or something said that Tesla motors were well engineered & really efficient compared to motors that other car mfgs are using in electric vehicles.
