I'm hoping to avoid a winch for a little while, good thing everyone else has one :)

It's a very handy thing to have but you'll be alright without one for a bit for sure.

Depending on cost I would probably do both. You've said before that you felt you needed a bigger winch. If the cost of the rebuild is less than you can sell it for, then I would rebuild the Warn you have and sell it. Then buy a new larger winch for your truck. Similar to what @EatSleepTacos did with his battery. Someone will get a good deal on a used winch and you'll get a larger cheaper new winch.

Stock Taco (for now). Have an Fj80 I am building for wheeling
I have a Warn M8274, its a big old winch, needs a clutch handle and wouldnt be a bad idea to rebuild. Its one of the best winches on the market. Id sell for $500. I was gonna try to mount it on the land cruiser but it won't fit with the bumper I have.

I don’t foresee going on any crazy off-roading trips like Moab that would push the truck to its limits. Some basic off roading in the mid-Atlantic at the most.

When it comes to this stuff, I’m a beginner. The most I have done is mudding with my friends when I was a teenager.

I think I saw It on Amazon. You can always upgrade to synthetic later or just get syn line now for a little more. You could probably rebuild the 8000 and sell to a Jeep guy or on Facebook.

Make sure they check your lower alignment tabs to see if bent. You should also check them to make sure they don’t bend them. Take pics for future reference. You bought it used right? LCA bolts might be seized. It is common for 2nd gens.

Only thing I would do differently is buy this one instead

    https://www.amazon.com/Smittybilt-9...4075&sr=8-1&keywords=smittybilt+xrc+synthetic

It's the same exact winch, but comes with syn line. I bought the $300 with steel cable and upgraded to syn line later, and it cost $300 just for that. So if you can swing it buy it with syn right off the bat and save yourself the extra money. Syn line aint cheap but it's well worth it. Much safer and easier to handle.

Definitely as it is a perishable skill and need practice. We should get a list going of things people want to discuss and train on and we can get the supplies and people who have the knowledge to work on a scenario and training plan. I am Pretty well versed on TC3 for combat and basic life saving stuff and others are very well versed in survival and EMT stuff.
