Was looking at trading in my 2017 Sport for a 2019 Nissan Frontier 6 spd MT with the V6. Any members own one or have a comment on the vehicle? Owned one a few years back and had little or no trouble with it. Thanks!

I had a 2006 Tacoma Sport 4x4 auto till someone hit me head on and totaled it. I really liked the Tacoma. The auto was ok so I can't speak of the MT. I had no issues during the three years I owned it. Seats were ok, but the driving position was a bit low (I am 5'7"). The ride, interior noise was good. Great turning radius.

I now have a 2016 Frontier Pro 4x auto. Bought it new 2 years ago. It reminds me a bunch of my 06 Tacoma. Have had no issues with it. Driving position is better for me. More upright. Turning radius is not as good. Performance is much like the 06 was. One has to remember the Frontier has not changed other than minor tweaks since 2005. Since late 2009 the transmission and engine has been pretty bullet proof. The Frontier does not have all the electronic or safety wiz bangs the Tacoma has.

Why didn't I purchase another Tacoma. Well in 2016 Toyota was not dealing on prices for the Tacoma. I also didn't like the seating position with the view over the longer hood. The engine and drivetrain was ok, but not like the old 4.0l the Tacoma use to have. Bottom line I could not justify the extra cost for a Tacoma.

Test drive and choose the vehicle you like. That is all that really matters. I expect the majority will diss the Frontier. This is a Tacoma forum. lol.

Only trouble I had with my old frontier was the filler neck

    Why would you downgrade?

What is the logic behind that?

If you liked it when you had it a few years back, then get one because they have barely changed in the past 13 years. I would definitely consider it a downgrade though.

I see you currently have the Taco w/access cab. Be aware that if you want 4x4, king cab, and the 6 speed manual, you can't get that configuration with a Frontier. It was dropped in 2017. I have a 2013 set up like that, and now considering a Taco since Toyota still believes in a manual trans set up.

Down grade is in the eyes of the buyer. Depends what one wants. I have no need for many of the electronic wiz bangs the Tacoma has. Is the stuff worth the extra dollars you have to pay. I keep vehicles long enough that resale value is really not an issue.

That is not correct. They have 2019's with the V6 and a 6 spd manual. No access cab yes but a 4 dr version. The MT ones are very rare, only found a small number throughout the country. The price is attractive, and with the high resale of the Tacoma it got me thinking. I am not into lifts or big oversize tires but was thinking a fresh motor and tires for a few grand wouldn't be bad.

I have a 2013 Frontier,SV,so it's the most basic model. I can't comment on the newer models,or the MT. I'm on the opposite spectrum. I want all the creature comforts and tech. Don't get me wrong,I love my Frontier, havn't had any major issues. But like it's been said, they havn't upgraded the interior since the stone age. If that is what you're looking for and don't want to spend a shit ton of money go for the Frontier. To me though,it's a downgrade.

Had an 06 frontier acsb 6speed 4wd nismo before pro4x package same as an or with locker. Really liked that truck had 150k never a single issue with it. To me felt like a better built truck with the box frame, had real heavy steering stock def had more power than the 4.0 taco. But the taco is a better overall truck the Nissan turning radius close to a f250 longbed crewcab, mpg was worse, harder to work on just changing plugs but everything else very similar. Seating position was awful an awkward position for the steering wheel.
I’d rather have my taco comparing stock to stock.

Had a 2003 frontier supercharged crew cab just before my 1st Tacoma. I cant speak for the current gen of Frontier... but the 03 felt really cheap in my opinion... and the super charger didn't do as well as Id hoped... sold it after 3 months and purchased a new 08 Tacoma...

That being said, I have a few family members with a newer Frontier and love it! So take my opinion with the salt grain...

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
2019 Nissan interior is on par with a 2nd gen. Its engine has better low end power and similar top end; most people would prefer the Nissan 4.0L over the Toyota 3.5L. From my experience, the Tacoma has far better suspension design for offroad allowing more flexability. Toyota aftermarket support is vastly superior. Other than that; similar trucks.

I find they ride nicer and have more power than the Tacoma, but the interior never appealed to me. always felt cheap, I think that's just a Nissan thing though.

I rented a 2wd 4 door Frontier recently which may drive differently than a 4x4, but it basically seemed to drive like most people on here want their Tacoma's to drive like. I for one hated it. It didn't feel much like a truck. I enjoy wrestling with my Tacoma to get it to stop and turn :p. The Frontier basically did what you told it to do. Steering was pretty tight and precise, braking was smooth, acceleration was quick. Just terrible.

Drive it and see what you think. I can understand why most people would like the driving dynamics of the Frontier, but I thought it was a bit boring. Hopefully a 4x4 feels more like a truck.

Can you still get a new Frontier PRO 4x 4x4 with a manual? When I was shopping for a pickup, I wanted the Frontier for the lower price but could not find one in such configuration. Even the Nissan page did not offer such config in inventory search. The moment you click on PRO 4x, the manual option is grayed out. Ended up getting the more expensive (more spacious) Tacoma DCSB 4x4 offroad with a manual.

2003 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab SE long bed. 134,000 miles, still a great truck. We take it to work sometimes and grocery shopping. No comparison to my Tacoma though. Different league.

consider trade-in/resale value on the frontier vs. tacoma.
