They are creating the required pedestrian crumple zone. The huge grilles were a side effect but now everyone is doing it. Can't have anything that deviates too far from the theme in North America.

    Bleh.

I would die a happy man if Cement was axed, but I know that wont happen.

Its a tacoma, not so sure that would drive the value up, but I am damn sick of seeing another new one on base/work every week. For the love of all that is good people, pick your own color. Lol. Should have got Cav Blue but there's already 2 Cav Blue Pros on base, havent seen Voodoo yet. Hmmm.

Yeah they cant go up in value much more but they are kind of hard to get as is, I imagine that they will be more valuable than white or silver in a few years in the used market

I just hope, help us all, that any Tacoma refresh NEVER takes any styling cues from the latest godawful Hilux. Fuggin ugliest vehicle Toyota has ever produced.....and not in a charming way.....just fuggin ugly.

Most trucks outside the U.S. have that similar styling, we are just the ones who have to have them all "macho" looking. I don't think its bad, but it's not great either. I'd definately take what they have for powertrain options and platfrom/frame over what we get.

What do you think the TNGA platform based Tacoma in 2022-2023 is gonna look like...:stirthepot:

I think a lot of people are getting a little too excited for this updated Tacoma. One thing I've learned about the Tacoma since Mike Sweers took over and that is that Toyota is good at disappointing people. I've also learned that Toyota doesn't want to innovate and break any mold for this segment. They want to stay competitive with specs bit just enough to keep their sales high.
The gen 2 Tacoms was a big deal and changed the segment. It was larger and had a V6 that could be compared to smaller old V8s. The 2007 Tundra was ahead of it's time too in 2007. Now Toyota rests in their laurels by selling parts bin motors in a platform that was not even a clean sheet redesign.
In spite of this, I'm okay with that. Reliability is #1 for me. Especially after owning so many domestics with chronic problems and low miles.
While I'm interested in the 2020 Tacoma I'm holding off for more info on the next gen Tundra since my next truck will probably need more pulling power now that I have some larger toys that need to be pulled.
I'm still hoping I'm wrong and Toyota does something exciting with the new Tacoma but I'm not holding my breath.

It’s called being evolutionary not revolutionary. They did this for years with the Camry untill sales started getting canalized by suv’s.
Why try to boil the ocean when you already have a winning formula.
GM tried to get them off their spot when they brought out the Colorado, didn’t work. They will wait to see what happens with the ranger before they even think about blowing everything up with the Tacoma.

Will likely never happen. One thing I will always give Toyota is they are extremely in touch with what Americans want in the styling department. Toyota isn't likely to ever make the Tacoma look like a Euro truck.

Yeah it's ugly, but it's only a truck and still looks like a truck.

    Why?

I guess that could benefit a few people.

I do like the illumination of the tails on the new Ram.

the camry engine makes peak torque and horsepower even higher in the RPM range than the Tacoma version. The Tacoma engine has been optimized for truck-duty and is derated for reliability purposes. This the same reason commercial work-truck diesels typically come with less power than the same powertrain in a consumer pickup truck. This way, the engine can produce high power for longer durations without wearing itself out as fast.

I think the best solution is to create a new engine. One that is designed specifically for truck use, this way there are less compromises. And the engine could be designed to be future proofed.
