Achooally. Not sure if it matters but all the videos I’ve seen the ring rotates around on the soft shackle

I'll be damned, it spins. I hadn't actually watched a video but saw them talk about friction, so I assumed it slid around a stationery ring. My bad.

Hah yea I want 3 rings to replace my 3 snatch blocks but at $100 a ring that’s not gonna happen.. I was def intrigued and wanted at least one.

My theory is the recovery ring completes the synthetic revolution in off road recovery. First you had synthetic line itself, people still using bow shackles/D rings and snatch blocks. Than soft shackles came about and people were using synthetic winch line, soft shackles and snatch blocks (designed for steel cable). Now you got the trifecta of everything synthetic and designed for synthetic line use.

The biggest issue I saw first hand was using a soft shackle attacking a snatch block to an anchor point. The snatch blocks I have dug into the soft shackle under pressure. The surface point of the snatch block to soft shackle is like 2 1/8” plates next to each other. Possibility of soft shackle failure or longgevity to the shackle would be an issue.

Eliminating bow shackles all together (except standard pull points on the trucks) will definitely increase recovery speed. When I needed to do some crazy snatch block self recovery where I needed to move the snatch block from tree to tree, it was a royal pain in the ass unscrewing and screwing the bow shackle in over and over. Now I'm curious, if you are hooking a strap or line to your recovery points, are you using a bow shackle or one of your soft shackles? Or going bow shackle to soft shackle to strap?

    Truu bout speed.
And I guess if it’s puddle stuck it’s important to be on it before subbed.
The other point to add is if a side pull is needed soft shackles to sliders are the perfect solution. 1. You can’t get a D ring on the slider 2. I would never wrap the line around the slider and attach the winch hook on the line itself.

I have from day one of bumpers tightened down the D rings located on the recovery points with a wrench to deter theft. Admittingly before soft shackles, after a few times getting a wrench to undo the D rings I started going D ring to Dring. I have still kept them on the bumper so tight it’s impossible to undo by hand. So now I would put a soft shackle direct to the D ring.

Yup all these issues I have experienced as well as well as the bolded scenario :anonymous: hence my purchase from you lol. It's annoying as fuck getting the wrench out for the d's that stay on the truck all the time. Especially when you are cold and already in a high stress situation. Tough because in my head I feel like I am chaining recovery items together, potentially creating more points of failure, but at the same time a hella tightly closed d ring shouldn't fail.

this is the exact reason my d rings don’t live on the bumper. I keep them handy with my other recovery gear, so they’re rust free and ready to be used. They’re a tool, not an aesthetic accessory.

Exact reason I keep my D rings on the bumpers at all times is the same reason I’m geared up for cross country even tho I’m just going to the grocery store. My stuff lives where it lives. Nothing has a temporary spot. With periodic visual inspection and countless use the D rings are fine to live on the bumper as anchor points, even on the east coast. It has zero to do with aesthetics. It’s like your saying why have a high lift out in the open permanently mounted when you can just throw it in the bed when you leave on trips..

All my recovery gear lives on the truck. It just lives in a dry environment, the rifle case on my roof rack. It’s nice and neat and organized, so in the event of a recovery (which typically raises stress levels) everything is ready to go. No fumbling with a frozen or rusted D ring.

Your rebuttal would make more sense if I said to leave gear at home and only bring it on trips, but that’s not what I said.
