That is kind of what I'm getting at. Also, it was less than 15 years ago where there were no backup cameras and heated seats were top of the line luxury. Now you have heated steering wheels and rear bench seats, massaging front captain chairs, trailer backup assist (heaven forbid you don't know how to back up your trailer), and the list goes on and on.

I agree. My main point was just to laugh at how far manufacturers have gone with everything on trucks. At the end of the day people buy whatever floats their boat, but don't run around bitching about pricing after requiring all this extra stuff.

Companies aren't only using the profits made off the units sold with new gadgets to pay for the development, engineering, and manufacturing for the new gadgets. You think companies will take a loss because they did not sell enough of new tailgates? GTFO they will make their money by raising prices across all platforms, even without the fancy tailgate.

Exactly, trucks are not single use vehicles any longer. They are jack of all trade vehicles that are just as at home taking your girl out to dinner as they are out on the trail or hauling trash to the dump.

The last time I checked you can do all three of those with a 4runner and a small utility trailer. My point was about people who have absolutely zero need for a truck bed whatsoever demanding all the latest and greatest technology.

Not exactly and it's a pain in the rear. I just bought a rental property last year and now do a lot of hauling crap and the MAIN reason why I'll be trading my X5 for the 2020 Taco. I do have tow hitch on my X5 and have used trailers from Home depot rentals buts a MAJOR inconvenience and additional cost. My kids are grown up and my wife's GMC Denali is the major human carrier so my X5 is no longer meeting my needs.

On many occasions, I've borrowed my dad-in-law's Tundra for my rental property chores. Also took up fishing last year and carrying poles, live bait, muddy boots in my X5 is not pleasant.

Can't wait for the 2020 Taco.

The way a vehicle sounds is incredibly overrated.

Just depends on your living situation and if you have room to store a trailer I would assume.

The poster asked how it sounded compared to the TRD Pro Tundra so I answered since I have heard it in person. Your statement about exhaust notes being overrated has nothing to do with his question.

I will say I have at least 3 coworkers who have trucks and have yet to use their beds except maybe once for mulch at Home Depot. And of course they are decked out on spacers and moto metal wheels. Trucks have become an image vehicle more then for actual use.

It's a bummer we dont get the diesel Rangers/Hilux in US. I've driven both and both are far exciting than the gas versions here.

The Asian/Pacific versions also come with factory roll over bar, bull bar, etc as stock on many models. The interior finishing and 2 tone accented seats are FAAAR better than the crappy cloth ones we get here in the US. My cousin in Fiji texted me the new Chevy Colorado released in the Pacific market and that truck looks so much better than the Colorado here in US.

But yeah, I don't dig the body styles and far prefer the 3rd Gen Taco , which IMO, is the best looking mid size truck to date (even compared to the new Ranger).

But that color is the new hot color. The Raptor is available in a color similar, so are mopars. It’s just a catchy color. When the 13 FJ came out, I fell in love with it then. But there are a few of them out there.

I think that comments like "Why does it need xxx it's a truck" are a bit close-minded.

Maybe, these comments come from the thought process that it is supposed to be a "work" or off road vehicle so it should not need a bunch of luxury/fancy stuff. This does seem to be a fair number of TW members. Though, truth be told I bet the number that actually dislike and do not want any of the bells and whistles is far lower than those that keep recycling such remarks. Could they ossibly want a truck that has no more comforts than a 4 wheeler because that is how they want to use it?

Those of us who actually want and need a truck that is our DD, family vehicle, occasional hauling truck, possibly wheeling "toy", toy puller.... don't complain as much about added features that make it more comfortable, safe, easier to utilize and such. Though I am old enough to have lost my naivete and am fully aware that if Toyota is spending research and development money on any new feature for the Tacoma it will impact the price for ALL new Tacoma's. From that viewpoint I do not want Toyota to add more tech, but to remain competitive and relevant ti must be done.

Some of those with the "it's a truck" mentality seem to think along the lines: An OEM winch.. sure, more rugged stock recovery points.... of course, better off-road tire options.. no doubt. But Toyota start saying things like TSS... HELL NO!!!, bird's eye view... not for the wheeling king!!

That fact that "it's a truck" is not disputed as much as some folk's view of what a truck should be. Which I think is what the point of contention really is. Do they REALLY want to buy a Tacoma that has the all the comforts and gizmos found on a 1980-ish harvest truck? Most likely not, but because they do not want something in their truck they don't think it has a place in any because "it's a truck"

IMHO Toyota should more distinctly define the branches of the trim/sub models. Meaning, the Sport is currently geared more toward on road than off so make it more of an on road machine by adding more features geared toward the urban DD and such. Make the OR more Off Road ready adding features & options for exactly that. Things like pre-wiring for winches, high clearance options etc. Let the Limited truly be the top end Sport with added luxury & comfort; while the Pro becomes an off road (not mall crawler) monster with better/more in demand off road features and options. Keep the SR as the base fleet/work type truck and make a SR5 Sport as well as an SR5 OR which are both just short the "TRD" features of the sport and OR.

I think many would be pleased if this will be more the direction the 4th gen moves.

I agree with most of that, and the issue is that all trim prices are impacted because it's a massive race for all the truck manufacturers to outdo each other constantly. I'm in the camp of actually NEEDING a truck and not just wanting one. I guess I'm just more simple in the aspect that the only technology upgrade I really like is the backup camera. I went from a fully loaded F150 to a 2nd gen tacoma which has virtually nothing outside of the backup camera and I had zero remorse.
