I think I prefer the Ram option too..? I haven't run into a situation yet where I'd need either, though :notsure:. I just like the regular tailgate.

I was looking at bigger trucks for myself since I won't get my dad's tundra for 9 more years but I think the best thing to try and do is convince the wife to get a larger SUV....tahoe, expedition, yukon, sequoia. Only regular length SUVs. None of the expedition ELs or Yukon XLs. I have 1.5 years before her lease is up. Showed her a 2017 Expedition Limited 3.5 Ecoboost and she's interested so far lol.

I will say this, after seeing the silly GM tailgate at the auto show, it's very handy for bed access. The new trucks seem to be getting taller and taller, that step thing is pretty damn neat and not as useless as thing Ford tried. I hate that it probably makes the tailgate cost an arm and a leg should to damage it, but it's pretty neat. The Ram one seems sort of pointless. I don't want a side-swing tailgate and I can't see that holding up long term with a joint in the middle. Seems prone to buckling.

Doesn't even have to be lifted; if it works over into the 2500 & 3500's I can definitely see the appeal. The tailgate on my Ram (on a level surface) sits right around 40 inches, which is at least 10 inches taller than my inseam
A tailgate I didn't have to jump onto would be sweet.

One appeal to the Ram swing out I guess would be if you have something in your bed that is longer and you only open one side. But then there would have to be a way to lock the tailgate swung open and then it looks like it would be wider than the truck. So I'm kind of lost as to why they are doing it in the first place.

It's funny you post that, I was JUST behind a red Chevy of that vintage this morning that was missing the tailgate handle, and I was thinking that it was an awfully common problem.

I can see how it would be handy, if you're carrying plywood, framing lumber, and assorted other materials (a crate of nails, saws, tool chest, etc). Set the plywood on the bottom, stick the framing lumber out through half of the tailgate, and leave the other side latched to keep the smaller stuff in place. This of course assumes an 8 foot bed.

Are we in for bad weather again? The city put more liquid rust on the roads.

    Clearly.
I'll need to get involved in some more high speed chases and lower my reputation score, lol.

I don't want to think about that. The Tacoma was getting bad. Many of the bolts under that truck didn't have recognizable thread anymore.

Looking for some help. I need tires but would like to go a little bigger. Currently have BFG rugged trail 265/70r16. Have to stay with my current rim's for now. Would 285/75r16 fit? If not what size would. Thanks for any help.

75 series will have the same section width (measurement across the tread face), but roughly 1 inch taller. Depending on how aggressive you go they may rub at full lock or when you stuff a wheel. My Duratracs didn't rub the mud flaps but would scrub the side lugs on the UCA if you did much flexing.

285/75R16 will require a lift and possibly some trimming, and wheel spacers if you plan on using the OEM wheels.

285s will fit with trimming/ chopping the body mount. They might rub on stock ucas though. Like Noel said a 265/75/16 is typically the largest that doesn't require any modifications. It really depends on the tire though as they are all different and sometimes the lugs on more aggressive tires will rub where a less aggressive one wouldn't.

I got called for jury duty in MA three times in five years and couldn’t believe it.
Moved to NH and a year and a half later I got called into Nashua for Superior court for two days.
My supervisor wasn’t thrilled I had it for two days:rofl:
