Looks good man! I've been meaning to get new UCAs so I can gusset everything up front.

Thanks, Cory! I’m stoked to finally get the SPCs in there and see how they do.

Looking forward to the crawl box build on your truck, by the way!

    I bet!

I'm pretty excited about the crawler. I've gotten a few things done since my post of TW about it, but I'm mostly just playing a waiting game at this point while parts are in the mail. :bananadead:

Jason how much are you having to grind off the UCA gussets? I didn't have to grind a whole lot. Just a litlle bit here and there with some tweaking to line things up. I don't know if it has to do with the SPC UCA but here's some photos of how mines lined up.

Quoted from my thread: Today I tackled the TC coil bucket gussets. There was some grinding, filing and bending to get them to line up.

That arrow shows where I had to file the hole to get the bolt though.

This arrow shows where I had to grind some steel off.

I had to bend the engine side plate to line up with the coil bucket.

Big thanks to the guys in the Long Travel thread that gave me a tip to burn it in like in this picture to make sure everything was as close as it can be before burning it in.

Damn Ray, solid work to make it line up that cleanly. That's the tough part about these trucks, there is always going to be a little distortion of the frame from use and probably from the factory.

Thanks for the pics and the tips, Ray! Much appreciated.

I didn’t even consider that they might need to be bent to fit better, so I’ll have to take a look at them again and see. I might try looking at opening up the holes for the bolt too.

Hope things are good for you, bud.

Other than pushing the front wheels forward more, was there any other reason you went with SPC adjustable UCA's? I'm starting to look into 35's and am trying to get everything in place before the cutting and welding begin. TIA. Still love this build!

Are front straps necessary to prevent cv bind?

Maybe depending on which coilovers you have. I installed them to prevent a very hard top out and loud clunk when I unweight my front end, which happens fairly frequently.

    Thanks, man!

As far as getting the tires away from the firewall, I’m actually pretty good that way. I used my AP arms to do the cutting when I tubbed, so any extra caster I get with the SPCs is just some nice added margin. I do like that the SPCs will allow me to max out caster at the LCA (I probably won’t go all the way, though) and still let me keep my camber in spec. Aside from that, I really like the idea of a higher misalignment ball joint rather than a uniball in this environment. We see a lot of mag chloride and there’s more than a little bit of mud and muddy water to deal with as well.

Thanks for the info, Brett. I have a pair of Kartek straps in hand and I’m about to tack everything in place. I’m going to try to locate the clevis next to the coil tower and just out of the way of the brake line so that the strap is more in line with the coilover. I can get the clevis up a bit higher there as well, which should help preserve some adjustability when the strap stretches.

    52012486-1602-4452-98A6-B21C637B91BD.jpg

To piggyback on Brett’s response, I’m using them to protect the shock from hard top out. From the research and polling I’ve done, it looks like for 1st Gen MT setups, that happens before CV bind. I’m just going to try hard to avoid loading up the CV at full droop anyway, if I can.

Also, another big thanks to Ray for being a sounding board with these limit straps and providing pictures of his setup.

Appreciate the feedback. I'm going to comb through multiple 1st gens with 35's threads. If I need advice or have a question about something, hope you don't mind me asking...:fingerscrossed:

Oh and by the way, my brake line wont stay like that :anonymous:. I'm going to make a new mount for it when I build the engine cage. It works for now.

I have 35s an total chaos arms, after the alignment I tested different back spacing and such. 1.75” of back spacing/ spacer is perfect. You won’t hit the frame or firewall. You will have to relocate windshield washer if you push the alignment that far up.

That’s good info. I’m pretty sure the washer reservoir has to go regardless if your running 35s, but it’s not a big deal to relocate it.

I’m running right at 2.5 total backspace and I still rub just a bit on the frame at full stuff. I’m okay with it, though, because I don’t want any more poke than what I already have.

Just subbed your build thread. Nice truck!

I've already relocated my washer reservoir but am currently running 4.5 BS wheels. I do have 1.25" wheel spacers but it sounds like I'll definitely rub the frame when I step up to 35's even with the spacers. With 33's it already rubs the frame but it doesn't bother me too much. I also don't want too much poke.

Thanks man! a lot of it is based off of yours lol, especially cutting fenders.. also the more backspacing you have the bigger radius the tire moves so you can also have too much idk if that would be your case.

Yeah when I had 1.25" they rubbed on the frame so bad it would try and bind its self. so not good. but I honestly have grown a lot on the 1.75". here's what it looks like from the side..
