We have a 2019 OR AC with Premium Package which includes the automatic climate control. With other vehicles I've had with auto climate, you leave the A/C on all the time (green light lit up) and the system decides whether to engage the compressor, etc. as needed. The owner's manual doesn't give a clear indication of what to do. Can I just leave the A/C selected year round (don't need much A/C in New England this time of year) and let the truck do the rest?

I apologize if this has appeared elsewhere in the TW Forum. I did a search and didn't come up with anything...

I leave mine on all the time. My logic is that it keeps the compressor operating year round, hence keeping it from locking up.

Climate control in the Tacoma sucks my ass . It's either freezing or I'm dying of heat stroke .

In cold weather, what temperature do you set it to? And do you wait for the engine to warm up before deciding it's freezing? I've known of some that expected it to start blowing hot air immediately. When it didn't they turned up the temp to global thermo-nuclear, then complained because it got too hot once the engine got warmed up. I run mine between 68 and 74, in Auto mode.

These trucks even have an electric heating element to supply a little heat till the engine warms up, but you have to set the controller to High.

So once the engine heats up, wouldn't it be wise to set the temp back to a reasonable-for-comfort setting?

The electric heating element cuts out long before, it is just to give you initial heat.

My wife and I set the temps on each side and forget about it. The system’s awesome and works perfectly.
I haven’t checked, but if the new Tacoma’s are anything like my other vehicles, the compressor will run/cycle even in the winter if the front defroster is on. It helps to dry the air.

I would like to know the system logic as well. I turn the compressor off when it is below 50 or so. But that isn’t very often so I’m not worried about the compressor bearings rusting.

I'm subscribing, I want to know if I should leave the AC on all the time also. Also, I want to know, if the AC button isnt on, and I set it to 72 in the summer in a 100 degree day, will the AC turn on even if the button isnt pushed? If not, what the hell, what good is an auto setting if you have to turn the AC on an off yourself? My other cars dont do that, when they are in auto, its really auto. The manual says you have to turn the AC on and off yourself. Would like to know...

By default the A/C turns on when you switch to Auto I believe, but you can disable that in settings (either through radio or might have to use Carista/TechStream/dealer).

Pretty sure all vehicles turn on the AC Compressor when you select the Defroster position.
