Been considering upgrading to a Miller. Might do that, then take the Hobart in for warranty work and turn around and sell.

Speaking of which, any recommendations on a high end MiG welder from Miller?

 

Then you might even be talking Robot when you say High end but that is most likely overkill

Stay away from the Continuum seems some bugs that need worked out.

Are you taking 3 phase or single phase

Split system where the feeder can be moved as far as you have a control cable for ?

high end your going to want pulse along with Aluminum Mig ??

Single phase. Looking for a single, contained unit. Looking to spend a max of 3000.

Pulse MiG would be nice to have, not completely necessary.

 

That is Ok there is Hobby type High End and weld for a living high end .

 

I'm leaning more towards weld for a living type machines. I don't weld just as a hobby anymore and I'm tired of things breaking because of overuse.

 

Why do you want to upgrade ??

I like the Hobart better then the newer Miller Inverter based little machines

Out of Warranty so very expensive to repair

Unless you plan to go above your budget slightly and buy a Miller 252 I would stick with the Hobart

 

I want to upgrade because my Hobart continues to have issues with parts breaking. And yes, a 252 is a possibility. I want a machine that will out last me.

 

Then again it comes back to which manufacture has the best support in your area

 

I've got quite a few welding supply shops in my area. Even a warranty repair shop for Hobart is right down the road from me. So far, support hasn't been an issue where I live.

 

Talk to your distributor see if the have any demo 252 `s floating around

Not high end but I’ve been having a pretty good experience with my Miller 215 w/ tig kit I purchased. I take it to my welding class and use my machine instead of the schools. I’ve used the mig and tig processes. Currently using it for my verticle MIG certification.

 

Is it safe to mig weld galvanized steel? Even if it has been grinded off?

Reliability means simplicity. Go back to transformer units and stay away from digital readouts. My MM 210 and MM 250 have been dead reliable for 20 years. I'm not sure there is even any of these type machines offered anymore. Off to do some Miller research.

 

My Hobart 210 is about as simple as a Mig welder can get. A voltage knob and a feed speed knob. Any way to simplify it more other than use a stick welder?

 

I've tried using digital readout MIG machines, I just can't dial in the settings with a DRO. I'm used to setting my units up by the position of the dials. I can't remember the last time I looked at the tables for suggested settings.
