They can offer as many options as they want. The problem is they don't let you entirely customize it. (*I've never ordered a vehicle, just used online build stuff. Take this with a grain of salt*)

Shit is in packages. Let me get a Moonroof and JBL setup but no leather or dual climate control. Let me get a painted rear bumper without a tech pack. Take out all these stupid sensors. Can I get a TRD Sport without the stupid hood scoop? Why is the site telling me the Premium Package only comes on the ugly blue color? Can I get a regular f**kin key/ignition system and not a magical, race-car inspired button? Manual seat please.. power seat is totally unnecessary. Is there a heated steering wheel? But don't give me the heated seats because that's useless. Just feels like sitting in my own urine. Let me add Fox shocks to my regular TRD off-road. But also let me remove the Crawl Control system. And let me get color matched fender trim on the Off-Road. Steering wheel controls for everything under the Sun? Chuck it and save me money. LED headlights? Nope, it'll cost $2000 to replace them compared to a standard headlamp assembly. Don't need it. Let me order my Tacoma with the V8 from a Tundra.

It just becomes bloat and raises the price. I guess it's some sort of sales bullet point to say "It comes standard!".. GTFO.

Edit: Oh, also, rounded look stuff seems to suck. Just like the Ridgeline looks like a Civic with a bed and a lift, the Ranger looks like a Fusion with a bed and lift. Sounds like the engine ain't half bad though. Too bad it's ugly so it doesn't matter.

Lexus has had that look for a few years. But you know how automotive design works.... you can only go so far tough guy angular and then the pendulum swings back toward rounded.

You, sir are hired to head up Toyota marketing, I like your mentality and therefore hired you.

 

The reason Toyota does not do this is because of too much variation, that increases the opportunities for mistakes and lowers quality.

 

And so they should invest more in QC to factor for that which opens more jobs, customer gets what they want, has a good buying experience, and they tell everyone they show it to "Yea, I just pick and chose what I wanted like I was building a cheeseburger. You should try it next time your Chevy breaks down!", and Toyota provides an overall better product in the end. Also probably helps dealers have less leftovers laying around because consumers are ordering exactly what they want rather than dealerships just ordering random trim packages.

Anyway, this feels irrelevant. Tomorrow the 2020 will be revealed and I'm sure nothing will make sense. Let's get excited.

Toyota’s are always overpriced for one. You should’ve known that before even looking at one. You make your money back on the backend. But it sounds like you are wanting to return to 1983. A time when everything was “simple” but still broke down all the time and cars were generally shit anyway. I bet not one “techie doohickie “ thing has broke on your truck yet.

The problem isn’t Toyota. It’s Americans thinking they are so special that the company should just custom build a one of a kind truck and offer it at $20k below cost.

Some people complain just to complain. Just like there’s always somebody trying to paddle upstream.

Buy your truck, press the button to turn it on. Make a decision as to what packages you’re willing to pop for or go buy a Nissan Frontier and take it to West Coast customs.

Does that Cement in the background have a snorkel or is it something behind the truck? Also, the one in the foreground looks like a limited model, like it has 18" wheels.

 

I think the larger question is:

How many people actually want to buy a Sequoia?

I kinda think that The Tahoe/Yukon is better all around than the Sequoia. Probably even the new Expedition. The current Sequoia would be competitive in a late 90s SUV market. Just sayin’

 

Could it be a Land Cruiser? Same relative body size/shape.
